One of the main reasons why I ended up buying myself a Playstation 2 was the prospect of playing and owning the forthcoming Sony game Gran Turismo 3 A-spec, I also felt it’d be a good idea to get one because of the Sega games being released on the console, but I really did feel GT3 would be something special – and it may well turn out to be something revolutionary, but I’ve just had a great shock, as many of you may have already done – I’ve played the demo. Oh dear…

Let it be said, and Sony are keen to point this out, that the above mentioned game is still in development and so will have graphical and handling enhancements etc, blah, blah, blah…and all I can say is that those gaming people have got a lot of work to do – I was horrified. Ok, it’s a demo, but you could expect something decent right? I may be being a little harsh, but what were they thinking? The graphics are ok but Sony have an extra 100mhz to play around with – this game should look better than MSR, F355, Le Mans 24, but to be honest, it doesn’t even come close in terms of presentation.

Yes this is a demo – a demonstration, but I was expecting more. I want realistic backgrounds – not copied/pasted colours! The cars look ‘jagged’, and the lighting effects are a little unrealistic. But hey – it’s a demo, and as long as they improve it, I’ll no doubt get it – but for now, I have no hopes at all for the racing genre on PS2 – the best driving game this year is likely to be Crazy Taxi, and that’s a year old. Don’t moan at my condemning, just pray that the real thing will be a whole lot better! Sorry, just had to have a little moan – it’s been raining – I bought OPM2, found that the subscription saving is ONLY 49pence, that no Playstation2 games this month received anything over an 8 – well done for being honest OPM2 (and for not disrespecting the Dreamcast), but Future Publishing are obviously in trouble.

I can’t wait for the Getaway though – sounds and looks really good.
