ok, why dont microsoft just come out and say it, "what we really want the x box2 to be is, errrrrrrr basically a gamecube mrk2"

first of all they get nvidia to handle the graphics side of things (hmm now you'll remmber they currently produce the graphics engine for the gamecube)

secondly - they now go and get IBM to produce the CPU - (hmmm much like they currently do by way of the "flipper" CPU in the cube!0

now i realise they are probably impressed with the power the cube has in such a small space compared to their monstrosity of a brick, they probably realise that even though the xbox is apparantly super powerful, you cant actually tell the difference between the cube and xbox versions of most games, and if anything the graphics are brighter and not as washed out on the cube

so..........

why dont they just admit to basically wanting to recreate the cube as xbox ??

He said XBox 2.

Its just the same company, although flipping between to both the Cubes affiliates an odd coincidence, not much more.

Indeed - every game I play is powered by ATI - PC and Cube, laptop too. I run a Geforce at work but...it's not the same. I am somewhat concerned that the Cube 2 is gonna be powered by Nvidia (is that right?) becuase at this point in time it seems a retrograde step.

PS:hehe, this might stir up a nest (if anyone knows what I am on about) - did you know that Nvidia's Dawn demo runs approximately 15% faster on an ATI 9800 using a custom opengl wrapper? Apparently the students at MIT (some big US institution) were peeved at the image quality of the Nvidia and decided to give Dawn some ATI treatement. She loved it ;o)

Why would the X-box want to be the cube? It's too busy being the PS2.

The hardware inside an Xbox is worth far more than the asking price of an Xbox, that's why everyone was so keen to circumvent Xbox copy protection and install Linux when it first came out. It's effectively a free PC on Microsoft.

And I'm impressed you took it remotley serious.

All my claims that have no basis in fact such as the one above has it's toungue firmly planeted in its cheek.

Although Microsoft has stated "We are aiming the console to a demographic that is similar to the PS2's, we don't see ourselves in competition with Nintendo".

So there's backed up claim.
