Lets think of some other shows that are 10 million times more 'samey' than Buffy:
24, x files, csi, faulty towers, alias, oh and, i dunno, just about every other tv show ever made.
There've probably been more 'different' eps of buffy than any other tv show. Show me The Sopranos musical ep and I'll happily eat my words.

Yes, the season 4 arc was probably the worst of the series, but s4 had some great standalones in it (eg Hush, Something Blue, Restless) and it was Spikes best season. But I don't get why you didn't watch season 5, 6 and 7, as they had had great arcs and even better standalones (The Musical ep, for example).
Its like watching a great movie, but then when you get to a boring exposition scene midway through, you think 'oh well this scene is boring, and theres a good chance it'll stay this boring so theres no point watching it anymore'.
Alias has continuously great cliffhangers, but I've only seen season 1. Season 2 is on at a really stupid time on c5 so I always miss it.
As usual, a decent show got dumbed down to make it more popular and the originality went. Making Willow a lesbian really was the last straw as far as "what can we do to get new viewers" plot lines. Plus killing Buffy off at the end of Season (I think 6) was the most pointless climax ever because everyone and his dog knew she had to be back the next season. Pointless.
Now Alias, that shows promise and I hope it doesn't go the same way.
Something I've noticed over the years is that people who have actually seen an episode of Buffy absolutely love it and go out of their way to watch all the other eps, and people who haven't seen an episode think its ludicrously overrated.
The whole world might have given up on me, but I know Buffy never will.
Does a Bear poo in the woods :D
