The "Freeola Customer Forum" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
The main winners are...
TGMBloke for his interactive video quiz, and...
Jim-hat and Chad Niga for their SR Lost Gameadays Adventure.
It's obvious that both of these games had hours and hours of effort poured into them, so it'd be criminal not reward the creators. You both get to choose a game of your choice up to the value of £50 (jim-hat and Chad will have to argue it out themselves).
And the runners-up are...
HalloHowArtThou for his excellent monkey SR adventure, and...
Mojojojo for his Spam Hard game
Again, it's great to see people putting real effort into these games and they were a cut above the rest. However, I can't give everyone who made a good game a full prize, so you two will have to make do with a game up to the value of £25.
Thanks again to everyone who entered, part of the reason this competition took so long to judge was because we were having so much fun playing all the games. Give yourself a big pat on the back everyone who entered (and we enjoyed the non-playable entries too, so don't think they went unnoticed). Scroll through this thread and you'll find links to all the winning entries eventually.
Thanks all!
Ali

Those of you who already have your Special Reserve club mags will be feeling a sense of smug satisfaction, but I thought I'd make it official and let all the monkeys on the chat forums know about the latest Extra Gameaday prize. If you want the game of your choice (up to the value of £50) then you'll have to design... Special Reserve: The Game!
We want you to use your extensive game knowledge and expertise to design a game based on Special Reserve! How far you want to take this simple premise is up to you, but the more imaginative efforts are more likely to be rewarded. You can simply jot down a few game ideas such as what kind of game it'll be, main characters, storylines etc. or you can even go further, draw pictures, design levels - it's totally up to you how far you want to take this thing!
What will it be? A Sims-style romp around Special Reserve Towers? A platformer starring our very own Tony? A resource-management set in our Sawbridgeworth store? The choice, as always, is down to you. You should write a short synopsis of your game, complete with characters, storyline and anything else of interest. You can supply illustrations, make flash animation or even (and it's a long shot) code a real game if you desire! Use your imagination and get your game on!
If the entries are good enough then we may think about multiple prizes for this one, and extra special efforts may win a bigger prize than normal, we'll see. You can enter in this thread if you want, post links to games/animations/images etc here, or put them on paper and send them to:
Special Reserve Marketing Department,
Make a Game competition,
2 South Block,
The Maltings,
Sawbridgeworth,
Herts,
CM21 9JX
All entries must be submitted by November 28th (posted entries must arrive on time) and hopefully we'll wade through the entries and pick a winner for Chrimble. Looking forward to seeing the entries to this one to be honest, you lot thrive on competitions where you have to flex your creative muscles!
Possible characters for your game:
Tony
Mr Snuggly
Loki
Darkus
Bob
Candyfloss
Any old staff members etc.
The fact that you think the GameCube is crap just shows how much of a retard you are. No, the XBox and PS2 aren't bad consoles, but the GameCube is better than either. The games are excellent and better than games you'll find on either of the other platforms, with a few exceptions of the FF series and some superb titles on the XBox like Halo.
Me thinks someone is a Maddox wannabe. Meaning, you're a retard.

Theme SR.
----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------
You start off with a plot of land, your task being to build up your business, expand and defeat the other competing game shops such as Game and Gamestation.
On that plot of land you have to build and design the layout of your store. You should have areas for your basic ranges such as PS2 games. Then Xbox games, then GC games, then hardware. As you progress you get more ranges, such as second hand games, retro hardware, PC hardware, DVDs, and in the later levels even exclusive games.
You also have to hire staff. These include sales assistants, better sales assistants who are specialists in Sony or Nintendo etc, managers, web designers, and cleaners. Your job is also to balance your cash, paying the staff, giving them rises to keep them happy, poaching good staff from competitors and to sack those who steal from the company or who are poor at their job.
You beat levels by meeting all your sales targets, having high customer satisfaction, and making more money than your competitors. When you beat a level you get given a new plot of land (progressively bigger throughout the game), and that is the opening of a new branch!
Detail in the game would also be good, having high prices would deter people from coming into your shops, with prices to low you wouldn't make enough money to survive. Also on the theme of getting people into your shops, you get to advertise if you want. It would cost you money but it would bring in new customers.
To prevent the game from being too much of a boring management simulation it would have humour in it like in Theme Hospital. Instead of normal customers, occasionally Mario might walk in, or Sonic.
You would also be responsible for things like demonstration pods in the shops. If people get to play a game and they like it they would be more likely to buy it.
To encourage more hype and visitors to your store you could have special appearances by game creators such as Shigsy Miyamoto, John Carmack and Peter Molyneux.
Other things such as the store opening hours could also have an effect, open later get more customers, but more money on staff wages.
You could buy other chains of game shops to make your chain bigger, so as to compete against other chains better. For example you could buy Gamestation to become bigger than Game, but it would cost you a lot, so the only way to buy them would be to make big profits.
There would be an online multiplayer (or system link on console versions) so you could compete with other players game shop chains, instead of it just being CPU controlled like in the single player levels.
In addition to the management game you could develop the series. Like Command & Conquer brought out Renegade, a FPS, then Theme SR could have an offshoot - SR Staff Ninja!
That would be slash 'em up featuring Darkus, whose job would be to infiltrate and kill the senior management of competitors. In keeping with his former Ninja status he would use martial arts such as Kung Fu and things like Samurai swords to progress through levels, which would be competitors shops. He would also be able to steal things from thir shops so that they could be sold in your shops.
All in, Theme SR would be a humourous resource management game in the Theme Hospital vein. It could also be developed into more of a series covering several genres.
That is the website for my entry. If you don't want to read all of it, at least download the two trailers at the bottom (both are WMV format and both are zipped up. Not too big).
> but one question, how did you make the animation?
They're both animated gifs, using a series of images (some digital camera, some ms paint - you might be able to work out which is which :^) ) put together with Alchemy Mindworks' Gif Construction Set.
It's available to download free, then you can pay £20 to register your copy. It works perfectly well unregistered, but registration gives you the legal right to publish your handywork, and the nice warm feeling of honesty ;^)
