I agree about him being a dirty player at times but he also plays with a lot of heart - if a manager can control him then I think he could do a job upfront for England, because lets face it, other than Owen we don't have many decent striking options other Beattie who needs to be given a regular opportunity to show what he can do.

The trouble is, he's a rather dirty boy. He is foul on the pitch, and out-of-control off it.
What confuses me is why Sven never plays Beattie. He's consistent, calm and very skilled, plus he has a good football brain.

....or you could even try someone like Alan Smith who more technically gifted and can score a lot more goals than Heskey given the service and opportunity... but someone who probabaly will never be given the chance.
If England lose too many men, they'll need a 'utility' defender. Like Steve Watson.
