What is David Pleat doing that Hoddle wasn't?

There's a few very obvious changes that Pleat has made to the way the team plays. The major thing for me is that we're now playing 4-4-2. It goes without saying you HAVE to play to your strengths to succeed, and we just don't have the right players to make a 3-5-2 formation work properly.
4-4-2 is much more rigid, and although it may not mean so much attacking football what it does do is give the defence the cover they need and prevent them being stretched. It also allows us to break quickly which I personally consider one of our best strengths.
We never seemed to exploit that under Hoddle, but currently we're bombing forward as soon as we win possession (Konchesky was a prime example today). And with Keane sitting much deeper in attack he really is able to pull all the strings and give Kanoute the ammunition he needs (anyone at the game would also have noticed Poyet in his usual advanced positions almost acting as the partner to Kanoute with Keane deep behind)
So, Pleat has made subtle but vitally important changes, and it's working wonders at the moment.
