the human race would forget about beliefs in mythical gods and things, and concentrate on living in a human economy...
what do you think?

i didn't mean money, or anything along the lines of it, did i?
for example, would the world as a whole be tons more healthy if we all lived like the romans at the height of their time? and i don't mean people health, but none of these man-made future-disasters and so on.

Well for sure. Scientists can't research without any resources can they?

but that's only progress for humans, not animals, so in effect, the ecosystem would be perfectly balanced, and we would just be cavemen with leaves covering our privates, like in bible books, and eating raw meat with our hands.
when you say progress, it comes at a cost...
It is humans which twist what is written to suit their own ends and try to fall back on religion as a way of justifying their actions, however if they actually bothered to read the teachings they think they are following they'd realise how wrong they are. I haven't read the Koran so maybe Osama could point out to me the bit where Allah says *fly planes into buildings and try to kill as many innocent people as you can.....all in my name of course*
So while i don't think getting rid of religion would stop wars it'd make it alot harder for people to justify their actions for going to war.
This is how I see it; people look at religion as some sort of net to fall back on, when there's no where to turn and nothing to do, religion is the answer for some people. For that reason it shouldn't just disappear because it DOES help people, sorry if I sound all preachy and the like, to be honest I'm not at all a religious kind of a bloke, but you can't simply dismiss it like that. Even if there is no physical presence of a god, those who beleive there may have some picture in their mind to help them
For those who don't have religion, like myself, some may think it does seem a bit odd, like an alienated group or cult that are constantly trying to sacrifice people to soem big lizard dude thing. Well maybe not... but you get my point. I don't understand it, I don't know how people think of it, I don't particulalry 'agree' with it, but religion has it uses to some people.

Lets not forget the good side of human progress that is often overlooked. Like the huge medical advances. Two hundred years ago child birth was a dangerous thing, now it is rare that the mother or baby will die. But only in the industrialised West it has to be said. Anyway we, and religion, are clearly here to stay so you may as well stop complaining and do something else.

Yeah good point but most of this progress means either killings of inocent people, thats progress of weapons or killing the enviroment, thats just human nature for you.
