What you're all talking about is not really AI, it's robotics. The purpose of a true AI would not be something which assisted humans.

Put it this way, everyone here has intelligence, and none of you would do jobs like cleaning, surgery or basically any task, without pay, would you ? So nor would a true AI.

Oh let me rectify that, testing was done. Goes to show you can NEVER blame programmers; even after testing things can still go wrong. Although in the case of Therac 25 I blame the technician.

Hmmm, just goes to show that testing is paramount before software use. I was surprised that no prior testing was done with the software and machine arm.

but in some cases, when AI is developed, it can mean so much for surgeons and medical professionals alike. only robots can make milli-millimetre precise movements, and likewise are much better for hitting the target only, and nowhere else. but as robotics is at the present day, i'd prefer a team of surgeons operating on me, rather than a scary looking metal arm.
i hope i never have to think about that...

well, going back to the original topic, man researches AI to make life easier, thus making us obese due to lack of work, and lazy by nature. the americans and japanese maily lead the project. not a surprise - america an obese place.
