For Tarantino's "Kill Bill".
Bootleg, why? Because it's more for the exploitation/kung-fu genre fan, the sort of person that has endless number of bootleg movies from the Far East etc etc.

The more I see, the more I like
But Tarantino is, in my opinion, doing it correctly and not going for that Matrix-wannabe schtick.
I mean Sonny Chiba? Next to Bruce Lee, that guy is legendary. Thurman in Game of Death jumpsuit, the Crazy-88 henchman dressed like The Green Hornet, David Carradine - the original Kane, even playing his flute around a campfire in one scene.
This isn't some crap hip Hollywood kung-fu saturated action flick.
This is an homage to 70s exploitation cinema, be it Shaw Bros or Tobe Hooper. Like I said, even the font for the title is taken from "Drunken Master".
Charlie's Angels was a mindless popcorn flick for 12yr olds. Kill Bill is a condensing of everything cool about 70s cinema, dipped in his style and served up for those that are sick of films like Daredevil.
Loads of things like the anime sequences, or Thurman's character being bleeped out everytime she says her name...
May not be for everyone, and I dont care if nobody else in the world likes it or goes to see it.
For me, this will be having all the movies I love condensed into 2 seperate trawls through the video-bin and my bootleg VHS collection.
David Carradine playing his Kane-flute alone is worth my admission
I think my problem with this film is that I'm a bit sick of American kung fu films in general. We've had The Matrix, Blade, Daredevil, etc, but the one that did it for me was Charlie's Angels. Having seen adverts for that film I was just shocked at how crap the fight scenes looked, and how it was just blasphemy, kung fu for the general spaz population.
It's not really the fault of Kill Bill, it does look very cool, it's just happens to have arrived at a time when every Hollywood director is over-using kung fu for every film.
Impressionable kids aren't going to get about 80% of the references/in-jokes to this movie.
Sonny Chiba, Hattori Hanzo...hell, he even squeezed in a Shaw Bros zoom.
I love these types of films, and if QT has put his hand to it, then I'll be first in line.
It looks cool and everything, but I still can't decide whether it's a homage to ye olde kung fu flicks, or just the b*****d child of Tarantino's pop culture loving ego.
I'll still go and see it, but I won't get all hyped up about how cool it is like some impressionable kid.
He's captured that whole genre really, really well.
I've read the script and thought it was good, and his visuals rule. I liked Thurman's little Pulp-Fiction square-finger nod as well.
He likes having people looking down into the camera, did it in Reservoir Dogs with Nash in the trunk and Pulp Fiction when they got the guns from the boot.
Should be cool.
The shot of Uma Thurman poking her head looking bemused made me chuckle. I'll get on the second one now.

The music, hell even the font screams grindhouse.
Kung-fu excellence
