Just did my first over clock. Had this new PC for 3 months nearly and thought I may try and do an over clock. As its a Abit NF7-S its not that hard to over clock as you just select the settings. As I own DDR400 RAM and wanted to keep the RAM in sync with the CPU FSB I decided to raise the CPU's FSB to 200 from 166. As the frequency is alot higher I turned the multiplier down from 12.5 to 10.5. With this setting the CPU runs at just over 2.1 ghz when the old settings were at 2.08 ghz. But as the PC now runs at 400mhz FSB instead of 333mhz it should run faster. I will leave it like this for a bit to see whether the temperatures increase alot more or whether the PC is unstable.

XP1700 (stock 133*11 = 1463mhz) up to 2125mhz (170*12.5).

RAM is Crucial PC2100 (266mhz) obviously at 340mhz.

Well it is as its not standard spec. It also is an increase of of 20-30mhz. I know its not a big increase but I dont really see the point in trying to get a 200+ increase as its a fast PC any way.

You realise running at 200x10.5 isn't actually overclocking your system at all yea?

Mine's hit 70 playing Starcraft, which is hardly a CPU roaster. I dare not load UT2K3 :O/

Its a XP2800 Barton. No I havent given it a try as I dont really need to overclock it to hell. I have also put it back to default settings at the moment. Probably set it up tommorow at 200x10.5 and keep it on through out the day.

Very very hot. The hottest I've seen mine idle was around 56-7. It was on the hottest day of the year and the PC room was just like an oven. The computer had been on all day and I touched the side of the case and it was quite hot to touch. Never really been like that again. Normally around 40-45c, but I dont really keep tabs as I havent got a monitor installed. So I only know from the Bios after a restart or from the LCD temp screen when the computers off, doesnt work when the PC is on it just beeps at me.

Sounds like a Palomino chip. Bad luck.

Anyway your system should indeed run faster. You know that XP2400 of yours will probably overclock a lot further than 2.1ghz. Have you given it a try?
