Just wondering why they named it 360 instead of Xbox 2???
Sony have called theirs PS3.....

Thanks for letting me know, always wondered why it was called 360 & not 2!! :)

Take your pick from:

a) 360 is the launch price
b) 360 is its weight in kilos
c) 360 sounds better than 2
d) They ditched Xenon because they didn't want to be associated with something that was colorless, tasteless, monatomic and chemically inert

Well its not that original seen as its took Nintendos new console name, but expressed it in degrees.

And if you do a "360" you end up where you started from. I thought they would want a name that says they are going in a new direction.

I heard it was something to do with not wanting the PS3 to sound superior. Hence they ditched Xbox 2 and called it the 360. Also, since a 360 is one complete revolution, it kind of deals with Nintendo's next console too.

It does seem slightly more original too, but I didn't think Microsoft would care all that much about that.

It must be terrible, coming up with something a bit different from the boring...

I mean, it must be the reason Sega almost went bust:

Master System
MegaDrive (and MegaDrive II)
Saturn
Dreamcast

And it's no suprise Nintendo aren't no.1 for console sales:

Nintendo Entertainment System
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo 64
GameCube
Revolution


Playstation 3 is named Playstation 3 because it is the third Playstation. That's as far as Sony Computer Entertainment's originality goes.

Microsoft named their second generation console '360' because they do have originality, and are trying to put the message across that the system is all about putting you in the centre...atleast an attempt at originality.
