The Megadrive is made by Sega, a world renowned figure in the gaming industry, who not only have a half decent track record of producing great consoles, but a great track record of developing games.
Plus it has a HUGE back catalogue of titles, it's easy to use, it's smaller, lighter (almost portable!), and all your mates at one time or another will admit to owning one at one time or another.
The X-Box isn't, doesn't, isn't, isn't, isn't and they won't.
Megadrive - The Future of Gaming
FantasyMeister - Not operating within normal parameters.
However what really makes the megadrive stand out against Microsofts X-box, is its games. Of course there are a number of near "Arcade Perfect conversions" such as Strider, OutRun, and Golden Axe. Not to mention the excellent Sonic series of games and StreetFighter2-ChampionshipEdition!
Microsoft Are countering this onslaught with the X-box, although they may change the name as a small company called X-box technologies are causing them some problems.
The X-box may or may not have a DVD drive... the guys in R&D Sector5 have been to busy playing on their Playstation 2s, and so havent found the time to put one in.
The price I hear you ask well, current estimates are at around £150, cheap for a state of the art console....maybe! But theres a catch, in order to run your games youll need to purchase
"Microsoft Windows-X-box edition" which will set you back a cool £389+tax!
Games well, so far most of the games in development are ports from the PC. However theyll be far more expensive retailing at £30-£50. Not to be sneezed at!
All in all I think the Megadrive wins hands down, but if you really want to give more money to Microsoft then you can start saving that cash now, as the X-box wont hit our shores till 2002.
> How about space invaders?
It's already out on the Gameboy Color!
In fact you could choose it as a Gameaday prize!
Sega can basically port the whole backcatalogue of Megadrive games onto the GBA... so perhaps Fantasymeister does have a good point.
Which is better? The GBA or the X-Box?
Bit silly, I know... but on terms of sales, I expect GBA.
But not in the way you're thinking. :D
His 2D platformers are great!

Especially cos the Mega Drive needed to be good to stay in business but the lil lanky larry with glasses who owns Microsoft (Yeah I ment Bill gates) has enough money to keep it going even when technology has gone as far as perfect interactive holograms!
The Megadrive has LOADS more games than the X-Box, it's bound to do well!
(We didn't kill it... really...) :D
