David Coulthard has won the Italian Grand Prix ahead of the Saubers of Heidfeld and Frentzen but Firman continues to score points regularly and now only two drivers have a chance of taking the title.
Right from the start of the race, the race was between Coulthard and the two Sauber's. Heidfeld got away to an early lead but didn't do enough to stop Coulthard from taking the lead after the first pit stops. Heidfeld reeled in a slow looking Coulthard but Coulthard had fuelled to the end and when Heidfeld went in again, Coulthard stayed out and had enough of a lead to win.
The retirements started on the first lap when Pizzonia and Irvine touched and spun. Irvine came back onto the track and right in front of Panis. Panis only lost a front wing but Irvine's car was badly damaged and retired on lap 1. Pizzonia was involved again but it led to his own retirement. Villeneuve hits Trulli and Trulli escapes, Villeneuve spun and goes across the track in front of Pizzonia, Pizzonia hits him and retires on lap 3. Villeneuve needs a new front wing but this pretty much ended his Championship challenge.
Ralf Schumacher's hopes of points were dashed when his engine blew on lap 9. Verstappen saw his Championship hopes spluttered to a halt when his transmission failed on lap 22. Panis saw his transmission fail on lap 36 and it looked like he was going to score a point and to avoid the wooden spoon in the Championship. Trulli's Championship ended on lap 42 when he lost control and crashed out.
Mistakes were coming thick and fast during the race. Wilson, Barrichello, Button and Trulli all made mistakes and Trulli made more mistakes than most. Everyone found it tricky including the two contenders for the Championship, Firman and Alonso. Firman made a small mistake and just managed to avoid being overtaken by Montoya and Alonso saw his Championship almost ended with a shocking error and was unable to recover to the points.
Coulthard played his strategy well and could yet make the top 3 in the Drivers Championship. Heidfeld makes it two second places in a row to continue his good form and Sauber's good form. Frentzen was not as quick as Heidfeld and finished 3rd. Firman cuts his challengers to one with 4th place. Montoya scores a 5th place and leaps to 4th in the Drivers Championship. Michael Schumacher scores some points for himself and Ferrari with 6th place. Fisichella didn't look fast and struggled to 7th and Raikkonen got another point to the McLaren cause with 8th.

With only 20 points maximum up for grabs, Firman looks odds on to win the Championship. If Alonso wins both of the last two races, Firman only needs 5th place or 4 points over the 2 races. Alonso must finish at least 2nd in the nest race to take the Championship to the final round and hope that Firman doesn't get a point.
36 points are available in the Constructors Championship and 6 teams can still mathematically win the title. Sauber are just in it barely but it will be a tough task to win it.
The next round is in Indianapolis in America and we could crown a new World Champion after that race.
(A small side note. I would just like to thank everyone that voted for me in the Notable Election. I certainly didn't expect it but I expected the bashing I got after it. I would like to thank the people that supported me. Hopefully, I may be able to return the favour in the near future.)
*shakes fist at Fisichella*
Well, at least I gained some positions, but 5th isn't good enough.
