It must be quite a bit, as my wife often tells me that she has had dreams either about Nintendo games, or in which she is playing a Nintendo game.
Personally, I don't tend to remember many dreams, but this morning I had a rather odd experience.
I've been playing Mario Party2 quite a bit recently (review coming once I've played all levels, only I'll post it where it's supposed to go). And I think it's had a bit of an influence on me.
When my alarm went off this morning, I thought that it was part of a mini-game, so I sat watching it for at least 5 minutes. I kept thinking that the alarm clock would double in size, and start flashing at me.
It took me a long time to realize that this was not possible!
So do games effect you in strange ways, or am I the only freak?
'Buy an N64 and get a pair of socks FREE!'
Those Christmas sales are sneaky like that.
Going back to the original article you posted, I think it's down to how easily influenced you are. Look at the number of playground fights nowadays that contain moves from WCW or Tekken.
In the good old days we just used to grapple a bit and get told off, but nowadays it's all Matrix style fisticuffs and flying kicks. Kids are more impressionable than older gamers, so therefore impressionable kids CAN and ARE influenced by gameplay.
As we get older, it's more of a pasttime, we are more easily able to distinguish between gameplay and reality, and we see gaming characters not as role models but as a form of entertainment. More impressionable minds look at thier games' characters as role models.
Interestingly, you don't see much evidence of this impressionism on these forums. This is possibly because studies have shown that when people write things that are going to be read by others e.g. when composing e-mails or posting on forums, their standard of English goes up.
Therefore we tend to see more maturity than would normally be displayed when not writing, because we have time to rationalise our thoughts before submitting them to others.
Maybe they ran out of socks.
, do you think you could get Mrs. Dragon to start a
> thread on it later on tonight?
I doubt that, she's currently suffering her mother. She'll need to rest later.
Besides she thinks we're all about 13 years old.
That reminds me, we haven't had a 'Why women don't make good gamers' topic for a while, do you think you could get Mrs. Dragon to start a thread on it later on tonight?
