Hmm, despite it's awful design, every big gaming website is trying it make the console appear majestic and almighty - probably because the really good games just haven't arrived yet (as though they're being transported from another planet)

...(Japan)...

But do you all not remember when it was horrible?

It looked ugly, like a radiator? Everyone other than SR it seems is trying to make it look more than what it is - I praise you like I should SR.

I've just been to another website (up late this morning/up early last night...?) and they make it look like a kind of all powerful alien spaceship - perhaps that's what it is! But seriously, I think these people are trying to compensate for the fact that not many games are living up to expectations so far in terms of gameplay and visual effects - the 'eye candy' just ain't sweet enough yet, so we have to be hypnotised....brainwashed....

Anyway, I don't want you all to think I amm anti PS2 - heavens no, I wouldn't waste my time. It's just I think I am right about what is going on...

If the GameCube comes out at £300 I will LAUGH!!

And just to remind everyone, GameCube's European release will be early 2002.

NINTENDO HQ-LATE 2002

Nintendo boss (I always for get his name): We have to launch the GameCube now!!

Nintendo worker: Sorry sir, we have to delay it 'til next year.

Boss: Why the hell is that??

Worker: We're adding finishing touches.

Boss: Like what??

Worker: We're changing the shape of the handle, sir.

Prove me wrong,

Do you really want Sony to prove you wrong??

Or perhaps they could prove you wrong, and take the price down to £199 in August.

Yep, well, it's ugly. But it doesn't matter because it's still selling at £300 - and that isn't incredibly expensive - Dreamcast in comparison is just really, really, good value...

Having last night played the demo of GT3 on the OPS2M coverdisc, PS2 could look like a lump of doggy-do (can't use t-word) and I'd still buy one.

If I didn't already have one, that is!

The PS2 isnt meant to look like a Traditional Console, but more like a VCR. The look suggests its more than just a childs play thing, and with a built in DVD player it obviously is. I think most people will agree that it looks nicer next to your TV than the Playstation does!

When i saw pictures of the PS2 I thought it looked a bit naff, but then I realised that it was much smaller than I initially thought, so now I think it looks kinda cool!

They can shine spotlights on it and drape it in velvet all they want, but to me it will still look like a 128-bit radiator.

But website marketing is always a little on the 'desperate' side, because ebusiness has only just taken off, and they have the advantage of being able to dress products up with snazzy graphics and great reviews, because they know that the majority of people who are buying products from them are missing out on the 'touchy feelie' factor, people still like to handle the goods before buying to get a sense of the quality.

With the websites, they lose out on this important selling technique, and therefore compenstate. It's a bit like reading the back of a computergame box to get an idea of the game, but you won't really know for sure until you've played it for a good half hour or so whether it is any good.

So whilst I don't condone websites for doing all they can to sell a product, they do, from time to time, go over the top. Witness the woman who recently purchased a PS2 from one of the auction sites, only to receive an empty PS2 box, which is what in fact she had been unwittingly bidding for.
