Like Wales being really competetive with England, who don't seem to reciprocate to the same degree, I suppose.
I spent most of my time in Denver, where the majority of people I saw were not obese. In fact I was very impressed with the women. On average they are better looking than British women (although there may have been some rose tinted spectacle wearing, inasmuch as most wore rather skimpy clothing because of the heat).
Very few Americans were obnoxious, or brash or any of the other criticisms often levelled at them. What did impress me was the courtesy of the children, they were far more polite than here in Glasgow.
Quite a few of the people I met were loud, but that is more to do with having outgoing personalities than anything else. I know plenty loud people from lots of different countries.
However, there are some people who measure up to the American stereotype perfectly. And they do give reason to hate America. But there are people like that everywhere, not just America.
Canadians don't like the Americans because they live in America's shadow in most things. Plus they sound similar and so get the same criticisms abroad. Most Canadians are nice.
people like these big brother USA contestants make me want to throttle a litter of puppies though
Plus, the politicians, well, maybe they don't represent America that well, and can sometimes be just a tad abbrasive!
For the Americans I've met, and spent any serious time with, I find them to be good people. The main difference would be that they tend to be more assertive than most British, who generally seem a bit more reserved (stiff upper-lip, chaps?) while those brits who aren't veer off into the overly aggressive.
Bush and TV don't represent America fairly.

I can't agree. I haven't met the majority of Americans. The Americans I have met though are rather quiet people.
However, from TV footage and American dramas the general perception does seem to be that they are more in-your-face than what we are accustomed to.

If that's considered intelligent i'd hate to see a stupid post.
