I have upgraded my PC from a 900mhz AMD Athlon and 128MB of 100mhz SDRAM to a 2.40Ghz P4 with 256MB of 333mhz DDR RAM with a GA-8SIMLH motherboard. But this has ment my old GeForce 2 32MB graphics card is unusable (3v AGP rather than the 1.5v) so I am useing the in built VGA at the mo, with 32mb of the DDR RAM allocated to it. My question is why does the computer run slower playing games (it is faster than it used to be running programs etc) than it used to? Is this due to the inbuilt VGA graphics taking up RAM and processing power? I have a new graphics card coming, will that sort out the prob, or are some of my options set wrong?
Oh, and one last thing, will unistalling the VGA when I have the new Graphics card turn the VGA off, as the only option in the bios is to change the amount of RAM allocated to it, or how would I turn the VGA off?

Many Thanks
S.A.

You will really need a good flow of air through your case so having just one fan may actually raise your temps or not make them any cooler, The best option is a front intake and a rear exhaust fan but if there is no space for a front fan then maybe think about getting a new CPu Heatsink and fan or even a case, My case is an aluminium Lian li case which has 2 Fans on the front as intake and 2 fans at rear on exhaust, Also my PSU has 2 fans in it, Remeber when putting fans in it is best to have more exhaust than intake as the dust will build up very quickly otherwise. My P4 runs at 45 - 50 degrees under load and overclocked when using the Retail P4 HSF (heatsink and Fan).

It probably wont have a intake as such but if it has holes inside the case at the front you can fit a fan. Even if it doesnt get much air from the front it will generate a little anyway.

Probably better to have the back fan blowing air out. Having a front fan blowing air in is also a good idea. Having these 2 fans will help a little with cooling and get some air movement around the case.

Cheers all. I though it would be the onboard but I wasn't sure. Oh, one last thing, whats a good temp for a P4 to be running at? Mine is at 56-57 degrees C when it is running full.

It will be the onboard chip: they're just not designed for 3D performance, even if they are pretty competent with normal desktop stuff.

When you install the new one your motherboard should detect that there is a card in the AGP slot, and switch off its own chip. That's modern computers for you.

Yep, Sounds like the onboard VGA is slowing down the Gamin performance, Does you motherboard have an AGP slot or only PCI?, when you get your new graphics card in the Bios you will need to set the "init display first" to AGP (or PCI).
