A nice little test of the main low cost graphics cards http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-15338-2295-x-x-x should be useful for people thinking of doing a bit of a upgrade without having to spend too much money.

Sorry i must understood you, "restrict the settings that are playable. I thought you meant that any settings that i could use would just be impossible to play with due to lag etc.

Oh, and yeah, I didn't mean you COULDN'T play it, I was just saying that you'll not be able to run on great settings. You can get Geforce 6600GTs for about £102 or so and it'd be far smarter to get that rather than a 9800 Pro.

Huh? No you can play BF2 with a 2.1Ghz computer. Nash plays it with a 1.6Ghz just fine.

You just won't be able to play it on the highest settings, obviously.

It's okay but it'll definitely restrict the settings that are playable.

It runs 'okay' on my 9700 Pro, and the 9800 isn't exactly miles ahead. At this point a 9800 Pro is a bad upgrade because it's now 3 generations old and on its way out. For £20 more you can get a Geforce 6600GT which is 25-30% faster.

What I'm saying is...getting a 9800 Pro to 'play BF2' is silly because a huge number of people are REPLACING their 9800 Pros so they can play BF2.

Also, to play BF2 you should make sure you've got 1GB of RAM as well. The difference between 1Gb and 512mb in that game is HUGE.

With a 9800 Pro/1GB RAM and a 3GHz CPU you'd be looking at mostly Medium settings in BF2 except for Geometry and Effects which should be okay on High, probably with dynamic shadows and lighting on Low and no AA (1024x768 res).
