You just won't be able to play it on the highest settings, obviously.
What I'm saying is...getting a 9800 Pro to 'play BF2' is silly because a huge number of people are REPLACING their 9800 Pros so they can play BF2.
Also, to play BF2 you should make sure you've got 1GB of RAM as well. The difference between 1Gb and 512mb in that game is HUGE.
With a 9800 Pro/1GB RAM and a 3GHz CPU you'd be looking at mostly Medium settings in BF2 except for Geometry and Effects which should be okay on High, probably with dynamic shadows and lighting on Low and no AA (1024x768 res).
