You know if you send an E-mail to a non-existing address it gets returned to you as ‘non deliverable’ … is it possible to send a fake on of these to an address who you’d prefer to no longer get E-mail from??

I could just bloke the addresses I’ve receiving mail from, but then the senders just create different addresses to send their spam from, and it’s getting rather annoying.

It’s hard to filter this, as the mail is addressed to me directly, rather than as part of a bulk mail out.

I’m hoping that I can in fact send a fake ‘no address exists’ mail back to them, in hope that the person/people will remove my address so as to no longer get these, or the automotive system sending them out will stop sending them to me.

Thanks for any info anybody is able to give.

Forward a copy of their email to a fake address and then when you get the 'Mail Undelivered' email back, copy it and replace the fake address you entered with your address (in the message itself, that is), change your address in your mail program to something like '[email protected]' and then just send it to them.

You could make a PHP Mail Form, put your address as postmaster or whatever, then copy or create a believable email.

Sue the company.

I've always wanted to sue an online porn site for sending me pictures, especially as I could easily win when I was under 18...

I just never got around to it.

I'm gonna do it though, see if I can find a way somehow to do it.

Data Protection Act seems like a nice act to help me...

Mailwasher can bounce back emails if you tell it to.

However, quite a lot of spammer detect that it was bounced back by mailwasher, then send you more spam for trying to trick them. So I wouldn't advise bouncing back spam.

This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:

Your message was not delivered because the destination computer was
not found. Carefully check that it was spelled correctly and try
sending it again if there were any mistakes.

It is also possible that a network problem caused this situation,
so if you are sure the address is correct you might want to try to
send it again. If the problem continues, contact your friendly
system administrator.

I just relised that this may not work, because the senders may notice that the SMTP address refered to in the E-mail may differ from the one they used. Like in yours Phi11ip, it says to E-mail @ntlworld.com so the senders may note this and know of it being fake.

Oh well, it was a nice idea.

Find out there ip (however you're supposed to do this), trace it to get their host and you can make it believable.

Sending a message back is pointless - no spam addresses are ever checked - they are all dead addresses, or atleast never read. Your best bet is to use something like spamcop.net to report them.

Don't post your e-mail address all over the place, and look into getting an e-mail account that offers some sort of spam filter (but not hotmail because their spam filter is rubbish!) Spam Assassin is very good, but you'd need a host that offers it - Freeola doesn't!

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Excellent support service!
I have always found the support staff to provide an excellent service on every occasion I've called.
