Just got my Simpsons Season 3 boxset in the post from PlayUSA, to find that the stupid punks in customs have charged me £8.37 Import tax.

I've got a feeling I wouldn't have had to pay it and the parcel wouldn't have been stopped if PlayUSA didn't insist on having the price on the front of the envelope.

Ahhh well, nevermind, I got the boxset a week before it's supposed to be released in the US so it's not all bad.

Some major Simpsonage watchage tonight me thinks.

But I expect not everyone knows that.

Plus when you order Region 1 from a site with USA in the title it is kind of a headsup where it'll be coming from .Part of the problem is that, unless you do a personal importation scheme, then it's illegal to sell Region 1 DVD's at retail from within the UK because they haven't been rated by the BBFC. You can sell them, and ship them from outside of the country to the customer, but not ship them from within the UK - of course many places do this, but it is illegal and it's bound to be something that's cracked down on eventually. I know my local Another World has been prosecuted around 5 times for selling Region 1 + 4 DVD's, yet they only get fined, stop doing it for a month, then start again...

Nothing to do with trade practice, it's standard import/export duty you pay on goods not covered by value added tax.

Yeah, was literally typing a follow-up as you posted that. Yep, I think they've got ye there. Still, it's not good trade practise to not know beforehand :0|

It's not shipping, it's customs and excise duty.

They're stating that ALL shipping/packaging costs are FREE. Therefore you should be able to rebate that £8.37.

You do know Play is different now ? All region 1 DVD's come from the US, straight to you, hence anything valued over (I think) £18 gets charged it now, it didn't when you could order region 1 from the www.play.com site because they shipped from america, to Europe, then to you from Europe hence avoiding the customs charge.

Play are required by law to accurately list the value and contents of any package they ship, and if they did not they'd be shut down pretty damn fast. There are plenty of people on the internet who don't get you screwed over for customs to use them instead.
