I wouldn't go to The Renewal though because that's 1000's of people and you only need a few nutters using non-padded handles and swinging punches to have a bad day.
I played with people I knew and we always made sure that everyone was safe.

Just what I've seen from a friend of a friend who does it. I did see a couple of blokes at a games workshop convention (many, many (15+) years ago) braying hell out of each other with maces. 'Twas amusing to watch.
