I read (dailyradar.com I think?) that the X-Box might retail in the USofA at $400.

That probably means £400 over here.

Too much for a games console?

It cannot be £400 because it does not play DVDs out of the box! So, if u want the same setup as the PS2 (console and DVD) u have to pay 400 + the extra add on! Purposterous.

If the X-box did use that variety of advertising, then I doubt Sony would reply in the same way. They may however do something really subtle, that once understood made people realise that they were making fun of Bill Gates. That would be funny, especially if the two companies spent so much that all the adverts on TV were taken up by the two consoles. (Obviously it wouldn`t happen, but just imagine watching a film, where every time the adverts come on, the war resumes and the adverts follow some sort of battle sequence that continues through the night). Forget all the Banking ads the Cleaning products, the food markets the cars etc.. and just watch computer consoles bashing eachother up.

Any company that feels the need to plug their own product by slating another, rather than pushing their own products good point, must be worried about something.

It certainly loses them my respect.

Burger King always slate McDonalds, and Pepsi always used to slate Coca Cola. Consequently, I don't touch either product! You usually find that the more respectable company will acheive the higher sales, so I hope Sony don't sink to Billy Boy's level!

Sony's Crash character outside Sega's HQ and Sega's recent billboard outside Sony's HQ, while childish, were a bit of fun. Publicly slating the opposition is uncalled for and unnecessary, and to me, all it indicates is sour grapes, and that you feel threatened.

If it retails at £400 it wont sell many units! after all when it comes out over here in 2002 the PS2 will probably cost £150 - £200. It has to be closer to the price of the playstation2 to have any chance of selling!

Good point, apparently the X-box add campaigne will feature a big robot breaking his PS2 (Lucky Guy must have got one of the ones that worked in the first place!).

The adds will be very negative!

To anyone that hasn't heard I have just found out Microsoft's budget for advertising, and it is $500,000,000. If that isn't enough to start to make Sony scared the emphasis of their advertising is going to be focused around a Microsoft robot crushing a Playstation 2. Subtle!
Could this round of the software fight actually be won by advertising? Well that remains to be seen but armed with a half million dollar war chest to promote their products, expect Microsoft to have trumpets blaring and flags waving come release time. I must say it is sad to see SEGA leave this fight, if they had that amount for promotion would they have done better?
Well probably not as they did waste so much money, on poor decisions. But nevertheless, it is surely a battle over the 'casual gamer' that will be between Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft have so far been keeping the cards
close to their chests and using all the tricks that could have been employed, announce developers supporting the console at the US launch, announcing the look at the European. Trying to steal Sony's thunder hasn't been hard with some of the bad hype that they have brought on themselves.
In the past they have crushed the N64, Saturn and Dreamcast, but will Sony be able to withstand the money flogged X-Box's onslaught, the next few months will be crucial, if Sony don't get some new games out then they may
be leaving it to late. To pin all their hopes in MGS2 and GT3 could be very dangerous indeed.

Bill Gates must have heard you. Microsoft have denied all rumours that it will be $400, and have said that it will be priced 'competitively'.

(Is that 3 9's?)

Although I suspect Sony may announce a pricedrop for the PS2 around X-Box release time?... or at the very least, start packaging games with consoles?

Which I kinda miss... and is totally Sonys fault, since wernt they the first to sell a console without a free game?

Actually, it'll never be that high...

there will be 2 models though (like the GC)... first without DVD, and i bet it'll be £250 at launch, and then with DVD and that'll come with remote contro,l and all in the form of an add on... so u can get it anytime...
