Sorry for using the word different so much, but the point had to be emphasised.
Like the story that never ends- the never ending
> story!
Did you too feel cheated when that film finished? ;-)
So I guess if you don't like sequels you've never bothered to watch The Empire Strikes Back, or Aliens?
Never played any Mario game other than Mario Bros?
Only ever played the original Sonic the Hedgehog on the Megadrive?
If I were you, I'd go play some sequels, but think of them not as sequels, think of them as games in their own right, and judge them on individual merits.
I don't think that EA intend everyone to buy every release of FIFA games, they just want to have an up-to-date version available for those that want to buy it. Eg those that have just bought a console and want to buy a football game, or those that haven't bought a FIFA game since '98 etc.
Also this topic is hardly original, it's just a re-hash of ideas previously posted here.
Maybe it's the sequel to an old post?
Final Fantasy- weird name
Like the story that never ends- the never ending story!

The Game
Game designers only make sequels to games they feel have sold well. They make them usually better with bigger levels and more gameplay.
Just because they are based on the same characters and have similar graphics it doesn't mean they are bad!
Mario 64, it was a record breaking game at it's time of release. Loads of people bought it and loads of people loved it!
Banjo Kazooie, exactly the same moves as Mario with a few extra's, basically the same game, everyone bought it and everyone loved it!
They aren't considered sequels cos they are different games with different characters! However they use the same game engine and play just the same!
Sequels aren't always bad! The Final Fantasy series was so popular so sequels to it are good. I don't see how the Tomb Raider series got so popular but I think Eidos are just trying to stretch out the games til the film is released.
I love playing sequels!
I can't wait for C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 to be made and released and I can't wait til I've got Worms World Party!
Plus isn't the PS2 the sequel to the PsX? The DC a sequel to the MD, the GBA a sequel to the GB, the GC a sequel to the N64?
Another point of view is: Once you've got one football game, why buy another? Same can be said for racers, shooters, RPG's, beat 'em ups....but we all carry on buying games because we like our genres.
Most games that have sequels have them not because the developers think they will sell, but because the demand is there. It doesn't always work though. Tomb Raider II was possibly the most anticipated sequel currently out, and was slammed by gamers and press alike. But Core Design took the criticism onboard, noted that there was still a demand, and so TRIII and TLR were born and did very well. (That may also have something to do that both were released just prior to Christmas as well, but who's a cynic?)
'New' is difficult. As well as the difficulties of getting your company the backing to create a new genre and all the risks entailed in releasing it in a highly competitive market, developers like to stick with the bread and butter stuff because it pays the bills.
As more developers come onto the scene, though, and as more power is tweaked from existing and future consoles, 'New' should start appearing by the bucketload. It just takes people like you and I to come up with the ideas, posting them in the forums, and getting the developers to listen to us.
