I had just dismounted the bus and was about to embark on a leisurely stroll back to my house. So, I was wandering, just minding my own business and a woman walks up to me and says, in a slurred voice:

'My husband's beaten me up and I havent got enough for the bus, could you spare any money'

So! Was she lying, or was she telling the truth? I know you get people doing this in town centres, but this was in a residential area...

If she was lying- how dare she? Using emotional blackmail like that to get me to give up my (not so hard earned) money. She didn't look beaten up, and surely she could ring 999?

If she was telling the truth- I might just go and slit my wrists now as I am obviously a cold-hearted cow who couldn't give her £1 for the bus!

Get it all the time when i'm up town in Wolverhampton and on my way to work. I just walk past them but if i'm annoyed at the time i'll just walk past and tell them to get a job or something like that. I have no time for scroungers, i earn my money through hard work they should do the same.

I've had a dude come up and ask for money. Whether it was true or not, I haven't got a clue.

One does not like to be disturbed from ones ignorant bliss. That scared me more than anything, the fact that I realised I exist like that.

I got this all the time at Uni! I had this bloke come up to me, eyes blurred and unfocussed on me and in his slurred voice he gave me a 5 minute story as to how he's broken down and needed to get to Leeds. He showed me the small amount of change he had and I gave him 50p to make him go away! The most annoying thing of all was that half an hour later he came up to me again blurting out the same story and showing me the change he had NOT INCLUDING the 50p in that! At that point I told him to **** off and I carried on walking.

Another time was much more disturbing when a guy in a wheelchair come up to me asking for money and I said sorry no then he started talking about how youths stole his wheelchair and he had slit his wrists but a woman called an ambulance and saved him but he hates her for it. He then broke down and I felt sorry for him and offered him money but he didnt want it and wanted me to kill him. I had to walk away at this point cos I was freaked out! I couldnt get him out of my head for days I was really disturbed buy it! He's probably dead now as that was about two years ago.

Being a cold hearted Capitalist Conservative\Republican I never give money to anyone who begs for it, in fact I have only ever given money to three charities - the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, Salvation Army, and the 9/11 one for victims families.

I saw this old woman pick up a half eaten mars bar off the floor, wipe off all the hairs etc and eat it in Wolverhampton City Centre. I felt like giving her the sandwich I had just bought. But I didn't. Perhaps I should have.

Unfortunately Matt, you are not ;-)

You should have shot the dog and stolen his guitar.

I bought a bag of dog food for one of those guys who sit in the street strumming a guitar with a dog sat beside looking sad.

Better than giving him money that he would use on crap.

I feel cool.

A man came up to me and my friend and said "I just need a dollar!". He was bleeding from the mouth as well. If anyone had had a dollar it would have been the funniest exchage of my life.
