I have just purchased Windows 2000 but I am having some pretty big problems. The installation has ran ok and everything is setup... apart from one major hardware device. My sound card hasn't carried over and I didn't get any setup disks for it when I got my PC about 7 years a go. I believe that my problem lies with the fact that my Hard Drive now has a partition and I still have Windows 98 installed. When I try to load the W98 partition my PC crashes and I can not find another way to remove it.
Can anyone help me remove the W98 partition?
Thankyou.

Formatting does not remove the partition, it just readies the partition for use with a file system. Your best bet if you want to completely eradicate everything on your PC is to do it as part of the XP install - it gives you the opportunity to delete and make partitions. Just delete the ones that are there and make a new one, 100% the size of the drive.
Note that if your computer is 7 years old, you may have a difficult time getting XP to run. XP will outright refuse to install on a machine that has less than 64MB of RAM, for instance.
When you get your next PC - Just buy the parts online and build it yourself.

Anyone?
When I format will the partition disappear or will I need to edit the .INI file which executes the partition select screen?
I will stick with Windows 98 for now because later this year I will be getting a new tower unit anyway so that will come with Windows XP most likely.
Then re-install Windows 98/2000 whatever and download the drivers off the internet.
Tell us what your soundcard is.
