Console Launches. I’ve seen enough of them in my life. I first became aware of the launch phenomenon when the Megadrive was launched and all those strange Sega adverts came on TV. Our local news programme showed people queuing for ages and the games magazines showed all the weird and wacky stuff going on in Japan.

The last generation launches didn’t overly excite me though. Yes, I was excited about getting the PS2 and the Gamecube, but I only got the latter on launch day (having a day off from work) as the PS2 was too expensive at the time. The Xbox was a similar story. But their launches, while being newsworthy, just didn’t seem as impressive.

I remember people going mad over the SNES, the surprise of seeing the Saturn without hearing much about it and the media publicity fair that was the launch of the Playstation. The Xbox 360 launch was ok, but nothing major, they could have tried harder, but I have great hopes for the launch of the Wii and PS3.

As for my personal experience, I was there in the shop on both the Playstation and the Dreamcast launch day, excitingly waiting for my consoles. Both were a big hit for me and I must have played them to death in the first week of getting them. The Gamecube was the same. I even took time to open the box and savour the feeling of looking at my brand new shiny console (even if it did look like it was from Fisher Price). More recently, getting both the DS (couple of weeks before launch) and the PSP was a great experience, each one being savoured with the same excitement at opening the box and turning it on for the first time.

So, assuming I’m not in India at the time, I’ll be there to collect my Wii, even if it does mean queuing in the cold. I just love that feeling of getting a new console and never lost the excitement of pressing the on button for the first time.

Getting good previews (though it can be quite difficult, apparently).

What are you getting with yours?

Already got Wii Play preordered, mainly for the included Remote.

Depending on budget, will either take home 1 or 2 other games.

If 1: Zelda
If 2: Zelda & Red Steel

Not going to bother with the old-skool controller as Gamecube pads work with the Virtual Arcade.

Can't wait now, just over a Month to go!

Well, if they want a bargain in GAME. Amped 3 is pretty good for the price. Not the most amazing game on the system, but fun for a small price.

Anyway, all my resources will be going on the Wii launch now. Need to find some more money for games before December 8th...

Working in GAME I get to find out all the features and stuff and get upto date (non-fake Amazon details). It's doing my head in. I want a 360 but the Wii looks so tempting...

And I have taken your advice pb - I warn people away from Over G fighters...

Arrrrrrrrgh!!!1one I'm going out of my mind waiting for the wii launch. I have to make a really hard choice. 100% attendance at school or a full day of Twilight Princess.... Decisions decisions.

I'm practially counting the seconds. I should do what do what Cartman has done...

It's not bad. The thing that annoyed me (as with some other 360 games) was the tiny text and the fact that you really need an HD TV to get the most out of it. Still highly playable and more accessible than the PC version.
