In fairness the defence isn't to bad ziege-richards-king-carr is fairly strong, although if i was a spurs supporter i'd like to see another strong centre back there as i'm not sure king is a long term top player (laursen has been identified by hoddle). Keller is excellent in goal and will probably continue where he left of from last season.
It seems outrageously clear to me that all spurs problems are in midfield, simon davies is strong enough and would perform in nearly any team in the league. But the rest of the midfield needs serious work and there are some deals to be had. Ac milans massimo ambrosini and inters di biagio have both been told they can leave and would be brilliant aquisitions who'd make an immediate impact. Closer to home they should have moved on trevor sinclair and jody morris who are both english and both have technically a great deal to offer although admittedly morris is tempermental. Players such as scott parker and sean davis would also be invaluable, David dunn is another excellent player who they missed out on this summer and would have been far better placed than birmingham to land him. its better to sign one of these players for 4 or 5 mill than buy 2 dodgy eastern europeans for 2 mill each. If you don't go for the best with in your means you won't improve, you can only field 11 men at a time so build a strong 11 and worry less about increasing the size of a squad that is already deep enough. Sort your midfield out and you could be looking towards that uefa cup spot you want, once youve got a firm footing you can look towards further footing up the league.
But seeing as though this is a family discussion forum I will refrain from putting my views forward...
