I recently bought a DVD writer, and do not have enough ports on my computer to put it in so i have bought an external mobile disk for it to go in...
It just goes into that and then a USB wire goes from that into the back of my computer, it should now just show up as a DVD drive... But doesnt, it doesnt show up atall, it opens up allright and you can hear it spinning the disk around, but nothing comes up...
Does anyone know how to fix this problem as i need to write some DVD for mates, and i dont really want to be taking my CD-Rom and CD-Writer out just to plug that in to see if it works, because even if it did i wouldnt do that because my other to drives are good expencive ones...
Any help would be good please, thanks...

No, the square one is just a different connection for USB.

If it was USB2, it's say somewhere.

One end is a USB and the other end is like this squar USB thing, which im guessing is a USB 2 yes... but it came with that removable disk think which was built for CD-drives and HDD...
The picture on the front of the box is a DVD writer inside it, so im must be compatiable...

I doubt USB would've been fast enough for a DVD writer anyway.

Unless it was USB2...

Ah, good idea, ill have a look i just gotta ask my dad what he done with the box now...
Um what ill do it take out my CD-Writer and put this one in and see what happens...
The reason i dont want to sell my CD-Rom is because it is one of them slot loaders, that has no tray...
But ill try that, thanks...

.. just a quick query.

Check if your DVD can in fact write CD's as well, because mine does.

If it does, why not just replace your old CD writer for the DVD one, and maybe even sell on the CD drive.
