Before anyone quickly replys to the post with comments like "Oooo look its a 16 year old rebelious youth who thinks vandelising is cool" - read it through.

Over the past few years I have been interested in the subject of Graffiti art and the history about it. I know where it originated, the first ever graffiti artist, how its evolved over the years etc. I'm not talking about the willy-nilly "Bob was ere, being queer, drinkin beer 2k+4-1!!!!" stuff, I'm talking about REAL graffiti. Masterpieces on the wall.

People fail to understand that it is'nt vandelism, Its art. Vandelism is where people damage property/write comments about their loved ones. Graffiti is different. Its a way of expressing an opinion/message through these painted "pieces". Over the years it's evolved, Heck its even got a language to describe stuff.

In my opinion, Graffiti brightens up a town if its done properly. Its complexity is awe-inspiring, some pieces are 3D, some are basic. But they look great. It shows the talent some people have, Controlling a spraycan is'nt easy, trust me.

Yes you might not see the logic in all of it, But for us "writers" its a way of expressing a message. Before you think we are just "mindless baboons who are not worth the space they live in" think about the messages people have portrayed over the years. Political messages mostly on how stupid war is etc.

I went into Nottingham today and visited my favourite shop, called "coverage", there you can buy paint, markers (which I indulged in today :P) and you meet other writers and socialise. Its cool.

Graffiti artists are not criminals.

So your opinion on graffiti art? Discuss.

Graffiti is great, as long as it's on the persons own property, or not on someone elses house. Love the art kind, hate the gang tags and writing.

I am amazed by graffiti (well the graffiti that is worth looking at) i defenetly think that it is pure ART.
Infact where i live in one of the parks a massive graffiti wall was built which these graffiti artists use and every time i see it something different is always on there and everytime its just brilliant.

some of the graffiti stuff on this website is very good

Thats the reason why Graffiti started, To brighten up the New York subway trains, sometimes painting whole carriages with these masterpieces.

Its not an eye-sore at all, Its art. I don't see why people moan about it, The Daily Mail etc moan about it for no reason, They are the people that want it to be buffed over. And when stuff is buffed it looks bloody awful.

Graffiti in my opinion, Is'nt a crime. The goverment gets teams of "buffers" to go over it with their stupid machines that costs thousands of pounds to run. Why spend so much money? It's not like the artists are out there causing any trouble, that money could be spent elsewhere.

The Daily Mail (again) love to go on huge full-page rants about how they put a lad in jail who had been 'terrorising' the underground by spraying his tag on carriages, stations etc.

Now I ask you - does anyone really give a toss whether the Underground is covered in grafitti? Isn't that part of its charm? It's look awful if it was all painted white and lovely and spiffy clean, like some sterile transportation system out of Logan's Run or something.

Yep. Again thats just mindless vandelism, Drawn up by drooling baboons who think defacing stuff with retarded comments is "cool".

On the other hand, people who write crap graffiti and think they are "good" are considered "toy" writers.

I agree with your sentiment here gamezfreak. It can look really good if done properly, but unforunately most people just put "I woz ere" or "He iz a w**ker" and try and make it look pretty.

Also - Why does the goverment "buff" over graffiti? They make the wall look awful cause it drips everywhere. If they consider graffiti an "eye-sore" - why don't they just paint over it??
