So, this was an animated film I rented a thousand times when I was a kid (along with The Princess Bride) but I can't for the life of me remember its name. It's anime, and from the 80s, and it's a kid's film.

Here's what I can remember, it's not much, more images, but hey, I was about 6 or 7 last time I saw it.

These two guys come back from a mission in space to find the world has been invaded by aliens. One guy has a blonde afro and wears green and sunglasses, and is the older of the two. He's leaning back on his chair, kicking a button and saying how great they are. The other is your typical anime hero (young, dark hair). They see these ships coming towards them, the older guy says something about them being a welcoming party. Only they're angry aliens. Anyway, these aliens attack them and they realise that Earth is also under attack.

And these other aliens with angel wings are on earth too, they may or may not have been commanding the evil aliens, I honestly don't remember. They looked human except for the big wings on their backs.

Anyway, one of the guys (the hero) is given this big truck by this old guy that shoots out of the ocean on a platform and turns into a robot so he can battle these aliens. And he fancies one of the angel winged aliens, who's getting married and he has to stop the wedding. So there's this big battle at the end in some... caves? Maybe. Not sure. Think it was underground, like a base or something.

Anyone got ANY idea what the hell I'm on about? I'd really love to see it again, or at least have the peace of mind of KNOWING what it is. I can remember Ultra Man, and all the other "big robots battle each other" stuff I saw as a kid, but I loved this and I can't remember much about it at all.

Yeah. Finding an anime film you can't remember anything about which has giant battling robots in it is like finding a needle in an industrial sized haystack.

I just looked at imdb.com and checked the animation section and they have an animation index...but with a list of 17040 titles! Though it may not even be in that list.

http://us.imdb.com/List?tv=on&&genres=Animation&&nav=/ space Sections/Genres/Animation/ space include-titles&&heading=10;Animation

enjoy.

I suppose http://www.imdb.com/ is a place to try investigating, but the trouble is when you get an idea in your head about an old obscure film, finding info on it is highly frustrating as you can never remember firm details about it. It's happened to me on a few occasions before.

There must be some kind of website dedicated to all those obscure 80's films somewhere on the net...but where?

I've just been trawling the Internet for about 30 minutes but no luck so far - will try again later.

Can you remember any of the character's names?

I don't have a clue what film it is but by what i watched tonight on tv, as it sounds strange (no offence), it will probably be on channel 5 soon.
