P2P software has been ruled legal. The RIAA are now suing American users of Kazaa. The BPI has said that at the moment they are not going to try to sue British users, although that could change. The lawsuits have appeared to work to a degree, traffic is down by 25% or so.
I don't use it to steal as it were. I use it for getting a taster of an artist who I already like who has new stuff (or old stuff) and discovering new artists. I buy more CDs now because of Kazaa.
I've even ended up buying vinyl because I can't get some of the stuff on anything else.
