You *are* aware of the CIA and MI5's assistance in bringing him to power in (unrelated but spooky) Sept 11th 1973 aren't you?

Just 1 link, but if you google (I believe you know how to) about Pinochet, MI5, CIA, 1973, Coup etc, you'll find all the info you need.
So it's hardly surprising that, as with Hussein, the UK & USA help to overthrow a foreign government and install a pro-US dictator, and then promptly turn a blind eye to his massacres, disappearances, terrorism and murder.
http://www.lakota.clara.net/Library/nsaebb8/nsaebb8.htm
Both the Guardian link and the one above list comprehensively Pinochet's involvement and connection (West-approved) to terrorist organisations, money laundering, USA support and assistance in massacres in Nicaragua, Guatamala etc etc.
Yet you support and defend a murderous, brutal dictator simply because he offered assistance to a government that helped to install him some 30 years ago?
How does Pinochet and Hussein differ? You've already been busted trying to talk about nuclear arms, there are no WOMD, public support is waning (despite your baseless comment otherwise). Both are guilty of murdering their own people using methods and equipment provided by us, both exploited their populace for personal gain, both have been invited guests of honour at both UK and US functions prior to policy change that then turned them "enemies"
I'm having trouble in seeing how you can so vociferously attack Hussein and preen about UK/US methods turning up zero evidence *yet* are willing to defend another murderous dictatorship.

The one sane voice in amongst the madness and it's very worrying that it came from IB :D

you certainly showed us IB :D

And that's the only response you can muster. Even trying to bait?
*shakes head*
So you totally ignore the fact that you were wrong about "public supporting the war" and your "Time to do gardening in Iraq" thread, where you were roundly pointed out to be utterly wrong.
By reading the link you yourself provided.

Oh, and Mr Bartender - This isn't a feud, although it does look like such, this is pointing out the inconsistencies and errors in posts by a person that prides himself on being Mr Truth and Shining Justice.
Someone that will, if he belives himself correct, will post on and on and on and on and on and on and on until he's backed himself into a corner and cannot admit any mistake without looking like the blustering halfwit.
> Maybe I shouldn't ask this, but who is Belldandy?
Practical Magic.
But let us speak of this no more lest we bring about the end of ages. :D

Says Sheepy who clearly is engaging in "follow the notable" ....
At no point did I praise Pinochet. Goatboy pointed out that the UK had allowed Pinochet into the country in the past for medical treatment, despite the dictator's record. I then informed him of the help Pinochet gave to us during the Falklands, help which some historians argue stopped a complete massacre of the Falklands Invasion force. I then pointed out that, despite Pinochet's history, we owed him. Furthermore I pointed out that no one other than a few NGO's has shown any concern about Pinochet despite being aware of his crimes. Goatboy, from his own responses, clearly had no idea about the Falklands and Pinochet's assistance.
For those wondering about it, Pinochet told us the Argentinians had acquired deadly anti shipping missiles from a foreign source (mainly France), and that these were to be tasked to attack the invasion fleet sent by the UK to retake the islands. The problem ? Getting to them. Pinochet then offered UK forces guaranteed safe entrance into Chile, and immediate return to the UK should, by some chance, UK force's turn up on the Chilean border. Using this, SAS forces helicoptered to the location of the anti-shipping missiles, as the crew of the helicopter ditched it because of lack of fuel (it had been a long trip and no airborne refuelling was possible) and made for the Chilean border, one week later the crew of the copter were back in the UK, the missiles destroyed, and the SAS forces had also disabled other facilities and aircraft.
After that, we owed him, and the help we gave was medical.
