Just an update. Sitemaps have made it into the next release of InstantPro, due to launch shortly (after more testing and editor tweaking).

Hi t1mmie,
That's very strange - I'm not sure how you managed that :¬)

As far as I can see Google have only allowed you to submit in XML format from the start.

Here's Google's launch release from June 2005 the article links to this Google interview which also makes it look as if everything is in XML. Another article on the launch also documents XML sitemaps...

So I'm not sure how you've managed to get one submitted in HTML?

If you have a minute perhaps you could post a screen grab showing the file name?

Here's my screen grab showing format...

I have an old Google account with two HTML sitemaps submitted, validated and still working... but never mind :)

Google never has t1mmie - not in the Sitemaps sense.

Creating a normal html 'site map' is still worth doing, as Google say in their general guidelines:

"Offer a sitemap to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the sitemap is larger than 100 or so links, you may want to break the sitemap into separate pages."

But this type of site map is different than an XML Sitemap.

Hmmm is correct. Google supports XML site maps and adhere's to the sitemap standard. Otherwise it would have a job reading all the different formats a layouts people could create.

That page just mentions the 2 types of sitemap. To quote from that page again "Google adheres to Sitemap Protocol 0.9 as defined by sitemaps.org. The Sitemap Protocol is a dialect of XML for summarizing Sitemap information that is relevant to web crawlers. Sitemaps created for Google using Sitemap Protocol 0.9 are therefore compatible with other search engines that adopt the standards of sitemaps.org."

It is planned to introduce such XML sitemaps to InstantPro in the future, these would be built automatically.

Sorry Hmmm..., that's incorrect.

"In general, there are two types of sitemaps. The first type of sitemap is a HTML page listing the pages of your site - often by section - and is meant to help users find the information they need."

From the line above your quotation.
