I got my news of Square planning FF games for Nintendo's systems off an OFFICIAL source one of which is this months NOM!
You may be thinking of the OLD OLD OLD news where Square found the N64 too difficult to program for and decided to stay clear for the moment.
Don't confuse facts!
What;s this cr@p about your "sources"... anyone who reads quality mages like EDGE... orr even games master... will know these facts... stop trying to talk big!

Now that Nintendo are taking the CD-ROM path at last, Square are eager to program for their old buddies again.
1) More and more delays
2) They kept postponing dev kits, and the Nintendo chief said that at first "Nintenod would be the only company making games for it [n64]" and more would join later. NOA pres argued with this, and this broke unity in the company.
3) Square got the red carpet for Sony, and like many others got extra benefits from exclusivity, and help in the techical problems.
Hopefully nintendo have sorted this out?

The new advanced technology "scared" them off and they couldn't keep up to the challenge of making games for the N64.
But the Gamecube is the easiest console to program for and Square said they are really happy to be able to make games for Nintendo's consoles again!
