And I managed to find the single best CD purchase I have made this year (hence the title of this thread).
Now, put away your preconceptions and snobbery, and just hear me out:
The Definitive Sound of Atlantic Soul.
A 2-CD collection of just about every major (and some minor) soul stars from the past 40 years. I tell you, there's 50+ tracks of utter, utter perfection here that highlights just how bloody awful 90% of the current chart music is today.
Examples from this collection:
Sam & Dave "Soul Man", Wilson Pickett "In the Midnight Hour", Aretha Franklin "Think", Solomon Burke "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love", Otis Redding "These Arms of Mine", The Drifters, "Save the Last dance for Me", Percy Sledge "When a Man Loves a Woman", Bill Withers "Ain't no sunshine".
I've spent all afternoon sitting with headphones on just soaking up some of the most perfect songs ever written, sung by people with soul and passion, played by musicians that felt it in their bones and have lasted 40years. Compared to "I'm Robbie William, me!" by Robbie Williams or whatever emasculated McBand are currently being bought by stupid 8yr olds.
Definitive Sound of Atlantic Soul.
Go get some.
Solos galore, but I'm glad they stopped Kirk Hammett from doing that.
He has to try and look mean instead of looking like an effete Mexican mariachi man.
Besides, you get Robert Trujillo on the DVD. And he is more rock than anyone else.
> Anyway, Electric Six are on tonight at The Barfly.
> "At the gay bar...gay bar...gay bar...."
The Barfly is a gay bar? That'd explain why you were performing in a leather basque with a studded biker's hat on when we came to see you.
I got copies (Don't tell Lars) of Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning the other day. They're OK, about what I was expecting. The solos are ultra fast though - pretty amazing stuff. If they did that on the new album I'd be more interested. St Anger to me is just Mutton Chops McHetfield doing a slightly more credible version of Staind.
James Hetfield wears a beanie-hat and black in their video. And it's in San Quentin.
That's rock. Not being all rock-lite for the Camden sissies.
Anyway, Electric Six are on tonight at The Barfly.
"At the gay bar...gay bar...gay bar...."
I think they're the epitome of gay metal. Stay in the 80's, you freaks!
*shakes fist while reading Daily Mail*
So it *must* be good.
*holds up Reload* Look, this is pansy and nice. And possibly gay metal
*holds up St Anger* This has "chugga-chugga" riffs, no solos, swearing and a picture of a fist. This is man-rock.
Anyway, you like The Darkness. Which means you like the salty goodness of the rockcock.
Wassa matter, the hairy man shout his words instead of singing like a violated kitten?
"You're really growing on meeeee-eeeeeeeeeee" Nonce rock
> You want a copy of St Anger and this motown stuff? nevermind yer R

And I believe I'll choose the Motown album thanks, I'll give old mutton chops and his angry friends a miss I think.
"How much more crap could it be? The answer is none. None more crap."
> Are they the rap dudes? I always get them confused with The Neptunes.
They are the rap dudes, and they are the Neptunes. Although they've worked with people like Justin Timberlake and Christina Agui-whatserface, their own album is gosh-dern funky. It's all about the lady lovin'. One to add to the 'for sex' pile, Goaty.
nevermind yer R

LOL
