My internet connection at home is depressing. It was nice when I first upgraded from a 128kb connection on ISDN to Broadband, but now I use the work connection and other people's connections when I am fixing their PCs, it just reminds me of how slow a 1mb connection really is.

Surely other countries have far longer reaches for their internet speeds than us? My brother-in-law lives in a small town in Spain and can get faster speeds than I can living in a larger town in the UK.

Damn BT and their crap technology holding everyone up!

Got 2 meg here, but that's shared between 3 PC's, don't do a lot of downloading and only a little bit of online gaming, I mainly use it for the internet, and for that it's fine :)

Seems to work ok (just) for Xbox Live, but its annoying when I get asked if I've download this or that new demo the day after it comes out and mine is stuck at 28% after 2 hours...

Yup agreed there my BT line is holding me up as well I have 2MB Broadband but the line can only support 1MB although the connection speed comes up as 1.1MB.

Still at least it's better than 56kb dial up!

My personal opinion is that the advent of broadband has actually made a lot of people quite lazy in the way they share files. Back in the days of dial-up, you wouldn't even attempt to download something if it hadn't been shrunk to as small a size as possible via complex compression processes...

Nowadays, no-one seems to bother compressing anything.

I have 2Mbit. Sometimes when I'm downloading little bits of software only a few megs I'm like, "damn, what am I going to do for the next 20 seconds?"

A few years ago that would have taken about half an hour.

Im on an upto 10MB connection. It was about 9.6 last time I did a speed test so its pretty much what it says on the tin. Its also not capped in any way so I have unlimited downloads.

Up until a week ago it was just for one computer but its now split over to machines. The second one virtually never gets used though and would only be used for general surfing and emails.

I doubt I could cope with a 1 or 2 MB connection.

Did you do a speed test on your line? 8meg is the maximum they provide, not the guaranteed amount.
