I have a set routine (most of the time) when I go out to do my food shopping in the town. I know what shops I'm going into, and mostly what route I'll be taking to get to each of them.
Back home, you can't get very far without there being someone doing market research of some sort.
Anyway, back to here.
Recently whenever I'm in town there are people waiting with clipboards down one stretch of the road I go down. First it was some guy working for one of those accident legal companies that get people compensation for stuff, he kept on trying to find out if anything I've done in the past 3 years could get me compensation, which almost made me miss getting a charlies angels DVD as it was near closing time.

In the past month however the market researchers have been seemingly replaced by the charity people, being over the age of 18 I seem to be a target for them.
You can spot from a distance, they're the ones people ignore as they pass them. (this is going somewhere)
I pretty much always stop if one of them says something to me (not that I won't stop if its a guy), they do their talk and I listen and it ends up with me saying I can't contribute at the moment, but in the future I would be interested, I get the web address off of them and they let me continue with my shopping.

Friday afternoon I'd changed my pattern slightly and bought my magazines first, then continuing down the road I see one guy trying to get the attention of passers by, I figure the other one must be taking the other main road which joins this road.
I continue walking thinking about stuff and the guy calls out "woolworths" so I stop and turn towards him (I was carrying a woolworths bag), he asks my age, presumably to check if I am over 18.
Then he says "We're looking for cocaine dealers"
so I smile and he says "so you're interested then, I'm just joking"
I was waiting for the speach, but instead I got this...

"I'm trying to raise money for (I won't say what charity) and we're selling these magazines in order to do this, now the magazines are rubbish, they try, but they're not that good, but if you could but one it would be a great help."
Knowing that these things cost £3 each, I explained that I pay for everything by card and so I don't carry cash around with me, said if I had the cash I would get one.
He said "at least you had the decency to stop"
It was a different approach, from what usually happens and was funny (for me it was).

I usually stop because the few minutes that it takes isn't much out of my time and I usually learn something from most of them ( the charity ones anyway).

I know some people find them a nuisance (the market researchers "I'm not trying to sell you anything")
I was just wondering what peoples think about them, or if anyone has any amusing or interesting stories about them.

Oh and I appologise if the anecdote is lame (for anyone thats read this far).

everytime I go into town I leave either a)

Having walked an extra mile to dodge the clipboard carrying agents..

b)feeling guilty as I remember the pained look on their faces when I tell them that I cant stop..
c)feeling EXTRA guilty if I told them one of them that i cant afford to donate anything right now, then I get spotted walking out of Dixons blatantly carrying an expensive unnecessary luxury <-NOTE: this is a very rare one.
d)feeling that charities should really sort out better ways of trying to raise money, I once gave my bank details and all to one of these people and I got left feeling a bit 'taken advantage of' as I was young vulnerable and I had just got my first ever proper job, and I was in a very good mood...

Verdict:: I avoid them at all costs and I find them annoying, id much rather give to charities that use other methods

Though im 18 now the charity people still suspect im only about 16, so i can pass through unchallenged. Although im still too poor to donate anything.

10/10
Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Excellent support service!
I have always found the support staff to provide an excellent service on every occasion I've called.
