In this time of economic crisis, I'm sure everybody is watching the pennies - trying to save as much as they can by shopping about, buying alternatives and even doing without (or attempting to win GADs to make sure they have an excuse when another game plops through your letterbox).

I've recently joined several cashback websites, that when you shop through them, you get rewarded with either points or money. I've been quite skeptical in past, but I have found 3 that are really quite good, so hoping that I can try and save whikst shopping through them.

The first one I signed up to (this was a long time before I knew what the term "cashback" meant) was ipoints. This site rewards you with points for answering polls, signing up to select websites (which I try to avoid) or by purchasing items through them. I've not bought anything through them, so don't know how reliable they are with their payments, but certainly worth it for the points they give away for their polls. Not much, but so far I've manged to reclaim a music album for my time just answering questions. There are a few things to choose from in terms of rewards, but best just save them the best you can.

My preferred website of choice is " TopCashBack " as this one pays you cold hard cash for what you buy through them. It takes a while for it all to be registered and tracked, but some of the percentages of cashback obtained are excellent (like if you followed the link to GAME through the site, you will have 9% of the total cash you've paid for game software into the account). it also allows you to use certain search engines through them to be awarded a few pence at a time. I've recently bought a T-shirt from play.com through them (for £15) and received £1.34 back. Not talking megabucks, but still, if you buy a lot online, it certainly adds up.

I thought I'd share this with you (especially the freeola staffies who buy A LOT from game for the GAD awards...this could go towards a staff night out or something like that) as it feels like you're making a return on something you want.

Obviously, shop around when buying items through schemes like this - for instance, your 9% return on a product from GAME may as well count for nothing if you find it half price elsewhere. It's not a sure fire way of getting extra money, but it is nice to receive money for next to nothing!

Have you any similar sites that you use that you'd recommend me to look into, or any other tips for saving money during the current financial climate?

*I'm aware that I am getting a small referral bonus if you sign up to TopCashBack- I'd be mad to not to try and milk their system for as much money as I can - so if you are interested and rather me not make commission then just sign-up through the home page on their website)

I've heard you mention QuidCo before, but never actually looked into it. Would you get a referral bonus if I joined up? If so, post a link, or email me (I'll senf you my e-mail address through facebook later if you like) and I'll give it a look.

EDIT: just googled it...slightly bemused by the £5 admin fee though...should work out ok if I buy enough.

My main problem with these sites is actually remembering to use them!

I'd recommend Quidco, I've got more from the site than any other and their customer service is great.

iPoints have gone down in my estimations because they refused some of my points and they've taken away a lot of the choices and put the rest up in points to redeem. Still worth doing for the free stuff, but I'd always use Quidco first.
