Been researching for travelling tonight.

After trying to work out something to do with my life other than set out on the long road of unwanted career, and with some helpful pointers (nobs to Cookie Monster and Borat, amongst others), I was figuring on travelling.

New Zealand seemed like a good idea, and I've finally tracked down the specifics for their 1 year visa.

I knew you needed to show some financial backing, for time you weren't working, but I thought it was a few grand.

Turns out to be NZ$4200, plus flights, at approx. NZ$2000.
Equates to roughly £2,200

I can get hold of £1,800 through overdraft space (post-student) and premium bonds (21st birthday gift).
It's difficult to work here, but my friend is reasonably high up at Weatherspoons back in my uni town, and they're looking for staff.
Plus I can try to hit my parents for a bit. They always said they'd get me a 'proper' 21st gift too (from back in January). That's got to be good for a hundred or so...

Yep, I can get the money together somehow...

So, somehow and sometime soon, I'll be going to New Zealand for a year.

It scares me actually.
If I can't find a job (I can work for the full 12 months, but no more than 3 months for any one employer) and the cash runs out I'm in trouble.
If getting on my feet when there is difficult, I'm in trouble.

But that's good. My old basketball coach told me once, before a competition final, 'if you're feeling nervous then it shows it means something, it shows that winning is worth something'.
I don't remember the exact words, and there was a bit more swearing, but the point is a good one, the chance of meaningful achievement has to come with fear of failure.
Plus overcoming fear always rules.
Except with spiders, where it rules for about half an hour, then you're scared of them again.

Anyway, £2,200ish. *Dances*

I had a mate who was from NZ. I kind of fancied going some time, but figured I would be better off in Australia as I have family there. Which gives me incentive to get back in touch with my Nephew doesn't it.

Thats great news Dr. Duck, i fancy new Zealand as well, more because of the whole Lord of The Rings thing than anything else.

I find the same thing, i never watch basketball on TV but I do love playing it, Ive been out of the playing circuit for about 2 years now but ive got a deep longing to get back into it, as Im not currently a student and living in a certain part of wales (no offence meant wales!!) there are only two courts that i know of within reasonable distance one of which is horribly run down, and constantly occupied by bored teenagers the other belongs to a Uni and is for use by the students there only! Damn... I might go as far as blagging myself an NUS card so that I can gain access to the court...

I think Australia do a similar thing too.

Basketball:
Yep, played at uni. Just about.
Missed a month in the first year, ill.
Missed half the season in the second year, tore thumb ligaments, recovered, broke thumb.
Missed all but 2 games of last season, dislocated shoulder.

But I played several games, and went to loads of training sessions :^)

Unfortunately, finding a post-uni amateur team looks tricky, and (Like Michael Jordan :^) ) I don't like watching the game that much, just want to play.
I've not kept track of the nba at all this season. I couldn't even tell you who's in the playoff finals (though I heard someone mention they'd started a couple of days ago).
So unless I find a team, I think I'm sadly going to be ejected from the game for good...
