Are they all waiting for the xbox or what.
My special interest was waiting for the new oddworld.
The reason it

Sorry, it's nothing to do with DirectX. Oddworld Inhabitants stated themselves that they didn't think PS2 graphics gave them the movie-like quality that they wanted for the game.
Having themselves raved about the PS2's abilities for months before the machine was available in the UK, they suddenly 'decided' that they could do better on the X-Box.
Having recently seen the "awesome" shots of the X-Box version on the Daily Radar site, I can safely say that it doesn't look a hell of a lot better than the last PS2 shots we saw.
The only reason they jumped to X-Box is that Microsoft paid them a lot of money to make Munch's Oddesy, and all future Oddworld games, exclusively on the X-Box.

At least with the PS2 you won't have to pay the extra if you don't want the HD. Looking at the X-Box specs, I seriously doubt that you'll be getting one for less than a PS2; in fact, I'd venture a price of around £350-£400.

And Sony aren't? Sony were one of the major players in the DVD standard, so I'd hardly rubbish their software!

But PS2 had DD and DTS too, and it does compare quite favourably with my £750 Sony DVP-S725D.

The only reason PS2 games don't have such sounds is that, currently, none have been coded to utilise that hardware. Many of the same developers are signed up for both PS2 and X-Box; there are few exclusive deals. And if it should turn out that the developers don't use the sound facilities available on PS2, what makes you think they will use it on X-Box?
Graphics have some way to go with improvement - the ultimate goal being, effectively, interactive, real-time video. Once games look like the real world, you can't get any better. Sound, however, is different. 48 channels is great. 64 channels may be better. Once you hit CD-quality, which we practically have, the human ear is incapable of distinguishing better quality. It is also only able to seperate a finite number of sounds at any one time, so what is the point of - for example - 150 channels? So I would say that 4 processors is overkill, especially as it won't be doing much - if anything - that current systems can't!
By the way, I'm not anti-X-Box - I don't like Microsoft, but I don't rule out buying one.
The reason it came to this is the fact that x-box games are written in direct x and pc game developers have been programming in direct x for years now, so when x-box is released the quality of games will be very good as these guys won't have to start from scratch, theyv'e got a gret head start,I'm not a ps2 hater and plan on buying one when i get paid next, but when the x-box comes out i will buy one too, I mean look at the release line-up,games like oddworld and malice and halo and even b&w!Now look at the games ps2 had at launch......erm some moody sports games and a fighting game!my point is that the x-box is gonna be wicked from the first day and it'll have it's hard drive built in, whereas the ps2 hard drive is gonna be an extra £100 pound at least!O.k so the ps2 is dvd ready whereas the x-box will require software from ravisent who is in the top3 pc dvd software manafacturers so i expect that the quality on that should be a little better than what the ps2 is offering, on that point I'm hearing a lot of people saying that the ps2 dvd quality is great, well it's better than vhs but can't compare to my £500 panasonic dvd player with built in dd/dts decoder but the advantage of the console dvd-roms is that there industrial strength and will last a lot longer than consumer players.Last but not least the audio capabilites of the x-box is amazing, 4 proccessors may seem like overkill/hype but games are gonna be encoded in dolby digital in real time and that includes 3d positioning, whereas with the ps2 only soundtracks and non-positioned sounds, and as for the graphics capabilities, well we all know who's gonna win that one!sorry to off-topic rant
