Warning signal I meant...as Ripley or Ash determine.

Isn't a distress signal just that - a call for help when you are in distress? how would this keep people away, and if it was an ALIEN signal, how would humans know what it was saying?

That actually happened in the book, and I have to say that the books of the films are so much better, as they go into more detail, and more stuff actually happens in them.
I'm gonna have to read the book of Resurrection to see if that's any better.
Ta da.

Ok chief, so in the second one, and I refer to the script again :
(VAN LEUWEN)
Terraformers...planet engineers.
It's what we call a shake 'n' bake
colony. They set up atmosphere
processors to make the air
breathable...big job. Takes
decades. They've already been
there over twenty years. Peacefully.
How come the colonists have lived on the planet for over twenty years and never seen an alien, yet when they travel to the spaceship they find tonnes of them? You mean to tell me that the aliens were confined to one part of the planet, where the spaceship happened to crash? Not impossible, but not plausible. Of course you could also assume that the colonists stayed in one small place themselves, which is fair enough, but how can this alien species reproduce and prosper, if it has to wait for someone to stumble upon its nest, which is only confined to a small part of the planet, rather than drones leaving to hunt for hosts.
Also, a queen had to lay all those eggs in that spaceship, where is it, and where were all its drones when the humans went to the ship? On the planet? then why does noone ever get attacked by them? Why do the aliens not break into the complex when the humans first set foot on the planet?
