I've never been on another forum as this site has been my homepage for ages so before I signed up I just used to browse the subjects.

Following on from the 'Mick Hucknall' link posted by Rosalind I ended up browsing through some comments. Today I searched the internet for other forums and boy is that boring.

Of the two or three that I looked at I discovered that other sites tend to be 'fussy'. It took me a while to find one line responses to comments because of pictures, icons and stupid quotes at the end of each message. Also, despite that fact that I can curse with the best of them, I've discovered that I do not like to see excessive swear words on the screen. I know that is a personal thing more to do with the fact that there is one certain swear word that I absolutely detest. I must have visited some poor sites as they seemed very quiet.

So why do I like it here? The forum topics are easy to understand. There is no fussy rubbish filling up the screen everytime someone posts a message. The swear filter is sometimes a little excessive (couldn't believe what I considered to be an innocent word got bounced back to me) but on the whole is a good thing. There is a nice mixture of silliness and seriousness and just a general feel good factor here. I still enjoy browsing through people's silly comments without getting to het up about really irrating posts.

The members are still here whose names I recognise and if a serious debate is started I think there are some well thought out and interesting to read answers, as well as the trash. Oftimes there are just some comments that make me smile while I am sat here.

So yes, I like it here.

How's it going, everyone?

Long time no speak/write etc.

My new job doesn't allow me to peruse the forums as I used to...

I'm 29 and can post rubbish with the best of them.
It's not "you must post intelligent" so much as this forum seems to harbour refugees from the "i lyke xbox" and "i had maths today at skool" type of posts.
Things range from religious arguments, monkey_man posting about his cats, me with politricks and regressive male chest thumping etc.

The forums are easy to navigate, quick to load thanks to no graphics/avatars everywhere etc and, on the whole, a pretty decent group of people.

I spend waaaay too much time, but that's because my job is a doss and I can't look at porno at work.

Ahh I'm a lot older than that and still post immature and un-intelligent comments. The first time I was going to post something I felt sick in case I took a lot of verbal stick. I believe that the more you post the more confidence you'll gain. Rosalind's right - only the very stupid get jumped on and you don't strike me as being that.

Rosalind - I'll look into MSN but there's nothing much to know, honest :)

I agree wholeheartedly. I remember visiting one forum, and one user had three screenshots of his PC in his signature! Three! And he posted in the same thread four times. I was on 56k at the time, and I nearly died... The difference is, SR actually wrote these forums from scratch, where other places use pre-written code. SR's way is way more flexible and easier to read.

And people here are friendly. You can engage in conversation without fear of getting 'flamed' (Well, on the most part :D).

And the final thing? Ranks. JAT, Newbie, Regular, Notable, Staff newbie/regular (and staff Ninja, I guess.. :D). Nice and easy. None of this "Super moderator, admin, *Insert custom rank here*"
