Macho agrees to join Chelsea
Wednesday, May 21, 2003

Austrian international goalkeeper Jurgen Macho has agreed to become a Chelsea player in principle although a deal will not be signed until July 1st.

Macho, who will be 26 in August, has been at Sunderland for three seasons but is coming to the end of his contract with the relegated Wearsiders. He made 27 appearances there including one in Sunderland’s defeat at Stamford Bridge back in November.

I don't really know what Claudio Ranieri really sees in Jurgen Macho - haven barely even seen him play for Sunderland before, during his time there.

I did see him play once-or-twice after he first-arrived, and he did look quite solid in-goal. But after looking at Sunderland's past-season, I can't help but think he's not all-that-special.

He'll never be more than second-choice at Chelsea.
Even though he does seem to think he can beat Cudicini!!
He'll just be acting as cover for him, like Bosnich did.

If you ask me, they'd have been better-off getting Thomas Sorenson - who also wants to leave the club - for only £4m.

Chelsea needed cover for Cudicini, so they were right to sign him. I think that they should have signed a decent young 'keeper, such as Dean Delaney, so they'd have someone who will not age as quickly. The only hope for the Blues is that he doesen't get injured.

i think he's a pretty good keeper, but not as good as cudicini (goes without saying really as he is the best keeper in the premiership)
