I'm not even sure if the last part makes sense, but you know what I mean.
Right then;

AMD Athlon
1.40GHz (Won't upgrade this most likely)
256MB RAM
64MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400
And a Big Chunky Monitor.

So, what would be best to upgrade? I really do wanna save up to upgrade *something* to make my comp better.
Price doesn't matter.

And with the graphics card - it copes perfectly well with all my games, so what would be the point in getting a new one? (That is actually a question)

Cheers.

He'd get about 15p for that PC if he sold it, and it's clearly worth more than that.

My Dad found the old PC upstairs. He salvaged another 128Mb RAM and he found a 12Gb internal HD.

It's not massive, but it'll allow for my MP3 storage.

I am right now :O/

Admittedly though it's a slower machine all round, although most of the performance drop is caused by Windows 98 as opposed to XP.

I *loathe* Windows 98 :O|

Ha you should try using a machine with 128mb after you're used to 512mb.

You'll fail.

A little bit under load. You may notice your PC copes better with lots of programs running, I didn't.

Heh, cheers.
And don't worry, I know how to check and stuff, and I know it's and AMD anyway.
I'll check that out. Danke.

7VTX is the model number for a Gigabyte motherboard which supports Athlon XP processors:

http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-92-1.htm

If this is the motherboard you have then you need DDR memory (this is good, it's faster and cheaper). You might want to double check this by opening the side of your case and visually checking that the appearance of the motherboard matches the picture of the board at the link above. Also right-clicking on My Computer, selecting properties and checking it says 'Athlon XP' wouldn't hurt.

If you decide your board is a 7VTX, you can buy memory specifically for it here:

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.asp?
Mfr%2BProductline=Giga-Byte%2B+Motherboards&mfr=
Giga-Byte&cat=RAM&model=GA-7VTX&submit=Go

I would recommend part number CT3264Z265, about halfway down that list.
