Why am I complaining about a charitable organisation? Well for start there are no less than 8 vendors that I have to pass to get from the hospital to the shopping precinct less than 200m away, they continually harrass you for money and then insult you or threaten you if you don't give them money or buy a Big Issue.
I mean, my heart goes out to homeless people, it really does. It's been cold, house reposessions have been high, so a lot are out there through no fault of their own at the moment, but just because I am lucky enough to have the sense to be careful or being able to find a good job, why should I have to run the gauntlet of abuse every day?
As Yahtzee Crowshaw once said, "I'm of mixed opinions on the homeless - on one hand they are tragic victims of an uncaring society but on the other they are also tragic victims that smell and shout at me in the street" I'm beginning to see where he's coming from.
So I'm complaining. I want to see what their response is. Has anybody here had problems with any of the vendors (especially pb/Machie/Vexxxed if he every lurks here - as you are under the same local area). What if complaining doesn't work. what would you suggest to make my lunchtime go freely without the fear of being mugged for my Boots Meal Deal?
They're like, zombies!
And Edgy, mention to him about the phone call before he asks you about momey for it - may throw him completely ;P
But I don't think wearing a flowery frock and a lavender cardigan in public helps me look hard....
Back on topic though, there was this one bloke in Cardiff who would be desperate to get home. He always needed 20p for the phone...every time I passed him.
He must've been waiting months for a lift as I never game him 20p...nor did anyone else by the looks of things.
He wasn't a Big Issue seller though.
Mind you they're not so aggressive in my town namely because the police presence is noticeable.
If that continues, I may just go over and beg him for change. Thats all he does if you don't buy an issue, he begs. So I think a bit of reverse psychology may be in order.
Only the one today. Makes a change from the 8 that are there...maybe Friday 13th made them all stay in their doorways for the day...
I also try to look them directly in the eye if I'm not going to buy a copy and explain that I don't want one, thankyouverymuch.
I've only ever had a problem the one time with a pushy Big Issue seller and just walked away.
I used to buy it often and be friendly, but the constant abusive remarks and the begging now causes me to cross the other side of the road.

Not wearing pink is a start. I'm not mean anyway, i've just got a glare that could break glass.

It's always more difficult for ginger people to look intimidating (yeah, i went there. Mean!)
