Can anyone tell me why X-Box is meant to be so good? My friend told me that it will probably cost around £600 and plays PC games. I dunno if this is true or not but there arent really that many 'Decent' PC games are there? Maybe Half-Life and the Command and Conquer series but thats all i know of.
The XBox probably will be the next generation Playstation the same way the Playstation was the next generation Mega Drive (you know, the popular machine everyone had because it was brilliant if note quite the best...)
Why do I think so?
Well it has the PS2's advantages (all round entertainment system, not just games), it's more powerful than the Gamecube and PS2 put together and because you can convert PC games onto it within a few days (because after all, most games are made on PC's) all the great companies (Namco, Squaresoft, Capcom and now Sega too!) will be easily able to produce great games for it.
Microsoft have plenty of Money to market it with and can't think of any reason why it would fail.
I'll be getting a Gamecube instead but I'm sure the Xbox will be No. 1.
Maybe not the best but the most successful by far!
As to the software I deal with Microsoft products every day from o/s to applications....some of which are 1st Class others are just good examples of "bloatware".
Plug and Play ????...Plug and Pray...we'll see
But Microsoft, doing what they do best, stealing ideas, have made a great controller, but it is completely unoriginal... and that's what annoys me... making money from other peoples ideas.
I will almost certainly buy and X-Box, and im not going touch a PS2 with a barge pole!

In the UK maybe, but if you go to the States the PS2 has had a very luke warm reception. All eyes are pointing to the X-Box as being the real "Neat Generation" console.

I dont think people are really that short sighted that they buy a console on it's appearance alone.
> controller looks, and will probably work crap.
I dont think people are really that short sighted that they buy a console on it's appearance alone, but then each to their own.
Microsoft only make the best gaming equipment in the world for the PC, it's only natural to think that the X-Box controller wont work properly.

True, but doesn't every console have add-ons?
To play 4 player you need an add-on for the PS2.
I think companies have to draw a line somewhere when it comes to cost, although i dont think it would have cost much to enable DVD control through the game controller (like the PS2).
>It's only 3 times faster than the PS2, and dosen't look it. >The 'new fandangled chip' they have is a stollen version of >the emotion engine, with some very basic enhancements.
It is only three times faster yes, and yes it does look it. Just look at the demo's on the web and you will see the features of the graphics card in full glory.
I hope the comment about Nvidea stealing the chip design from the PS2 was a joke.
As for basic enhancements:
Full Scene Anti Aliasing
Hardware Transform and Lighting
Per Pixel Shading
Texture Compression
It won't take off very well.
Any way what we do know about the X-Box for certain is that the controller is a little bulkier than the Dreamcasts and its black. There are allot of other use less bits of info like it has a Nvidia Graphics Chip but really we don't even know what the games look like.
