I have just got a PS2 for Christmas, and i think it is the greatest console ever, full-stop.
Can anyone tell me why X-Box is meant to be so good? My friend told me that it will probably cost around £600 and plays PC games. I dunno if this is true or not but there arent really that many 'Decent' PC games are there? Maybe Half-Life and the Command and Conquer series but thats all i know of.

I think Microsoft are going to pull it off.

The XBox probably will be the next generation Playstation the same way the Playstation was the next generation Mega Drive (you know, the popular machine everyone had because it was brilliant if note quite the best...)

Why do I think so?

Well it has the PS2's advantages (all round entertainment system, not just games), it's more powerful than the Gamecube and PS2 put together and because you can convert PC games onto it within a few days (because after all, most games are made on PC's) all the great companies (Namco, Squaresoft, Capcom and now Sega too!) will be easily able to produce great games for it.

Microsoft have plenty of Money to market it with and can't think of any reason why it would fail.

I'll be getting a Gamecube instead but I'm sure the Xbox will be No. 1.

Maybe not the best but the most successful by far!

Totally agree GT.....anyone and everyone can adopt a "me too" position. Microsoft have seen Sony's success in this market place and thought we'll have some of that thank you. The fact that the controller looks like something that was knocked together on Blue Peter is totally uninspiring and unoriginal....a round of applause to Sony me thinx !

As to the software I deal with Microsoft products every day from o/s to applications....some of which are 1st Class others are just good examples of "bloatware".

Plug and Play ????...Plug and Pray...we'll see

Controls are MUCH more important than you think... the best selling games of all time have the easiest controls, if the the controller is bad, the game is bad.

But Microsoft, doing what they do best, stealing ideas, have made a great controller, but it is completely unoriginal... and that's what annoys me... making money from other peoples ideas.

Even if the X-Box is a success (which I've no doubt it will be), the 'world' will still laugh at Microsoft. They're not going to get rid of their Windoze reputation that quickly.

To whoever it was that said they thought the X-Box and controller looked cr@p, SORT IT OUT!!! Who cares what it looks like! If the games are top quality, which looking at PC titles at the moment, they should be, who cares what the console itself looks like, put it under the table if it bothers you that much. Also, someone said that the controller looks uncomfortable, Microsoft make some of the best controllers for the PC, and they all look uncomfortable, but they are all really good. Stop being so lame and just slating the X-Box cos it doesnt look quite as good as the PS2. Basically Microsoft have the money and the backing of big games developers to make this work. They will get it right becuase they know the whole world will laugh at them if they mess it up.
I will almost certainly buy and X-Box, and im not going touch a PS2 with a barge pole!

In the UK maybe, but if you go to the States the PS2 has had a very luke warm reception. All eyes are pointing to the X-Box as being the real "Neat Generation" console.

I dont think people are really that short sighted that they buy a console on it's appearance alone.

I dont think people are really that short sighted that they buy a console on it's appearance alone, but then each to their own.

Microsoft only make the best gaming equipment in the world for the PC, it's only natural to think that the X-Box controller wont work properly.

True, but doesn't every console have add-ons?
To play 4 player you need an add-on for the PS2.
I think companies have to draw a line somewhere when it comes to cost, although i dont think it would have cost much to enable DVD control through the game controller (like the PS2).

It is only three times faster yes, and yes it does look it. Just look at the demo's on the web and you will see the features of the graphics card in full glory.
I hope the comment about Nvidea stealing the chip design from the PS2 was a joke.
As for basic enhancements:

Full Scene Anti Aliasing
Hardware Transform and Lighting
Per Pixel Shading
Texture Compression

Mabye not. The normal public feel 'Sony' and 'PlayStation' are still the "Real McCoys" of gaming. Plus it looks ugly and the controller looks, and will probably work crap. You also need an extra 'gizmo' to play DVDs. Another example of Microsoft eating up all of your money. It's only 3 times faster than the PS2, and dosen't look it. The 'new fandangled chip' they have is a stollen version of the emotion engine, with some very basic enhancements.

It won't take off very well.

It will also be more powerful than a PS2. People say it will contain a graphics chip one Generation higher than the Geforce 2 PC cards. And should generate around 200 million polygons a second (Maybe 125 million). It will come with a 8 gig hard disk. Broadband internet capabilities straight away. If they get the right games and dont mess anything up the X-Box could be a very good console indeed.

Lets face it no matter how much you read or know about a console you will only know what it is like Good/Bad when you are sitting in front of the TV with the controller in your hand.

Any way what we do know about the X-Box for certain is that the controller is a little bulkier than the Dreamcasts and its black. There are allot of other use less bits of info like it has a Nvidia Graphics Chip but really we don't even know what the games look like.
