I'm on 1mb cable & I never top 60k for download speed! It was sooooo much faster when I first started up. I gave them a call, and they assured me everything was fine & that the speed was optimal. 60K?! I thought 1mb was 100k?!

He doesn't mean that you pumpkin! A 1mb connection should download at over 100kb/s as he states in the post.

8 bits = 1 byte
1000 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1000 kilobytes = 1 megabyte
1000 megabytes = 1 gigabyte
1000 gigabytes = 1 terabyte

Also, turn your modem off for 10 seconds to reset itself and try again.

We've just upgraded and it took a while...

Lets put it this way, i have 512k Blueyonder Cable and I'm currently downloading a file at 56.7kb/s and i will be for the next 2 and a half hours. The mirror is slow which explains the slight drop in speed from my normal 60-65kb/s, basically you definately should be up into the 120's :\ Give them a ring and have a good moan because whoever you talked to obviously doesnt know what they're talking about.

On 1Mbit cable you should be peaking at 125KB/s or thereabouts. Try and download something from somewhere very fast - I always test my connection by downloading winzip from www.winzip.com, but that's just an idiosyncrasy.
