Two things on the internet that make me spit sparks -

Pop up windows with a difference - Pop up windows that say 'cannot find server' - add a new dimension to the word annoying

Sites that 'lock you in', i.e. you cannot return to the previous page by clicking 'back' on your browser. So you're stuck on their site and have to manually type in a URL to get away from it.

And another annoyance - messages with subjects that don't tell you what they're about.

Oh, yes, and another annoyance I found the other day - popup windows that are positioned partly on, partly off the visible screen, so you only see the left edge and can't get to the close button without dragging it on-screen. I guess it means you're forced to look at it.
Except that you can always right-click the title bar and do a close window from there.

Well, as to "Why", rather than "Examples", I managed to make one of these pages myself, without realising it. If the others are like mine, then its where your site has a "dummy" home page that only checks for the type of browser in use, and then immediately redirects to one of maybe several "real" home pages, that look OK in that browser.

So when you click "Back", you're just going back to the browser-detect page, and it redirects you, erm, back to the one you were on already.

Agreed - the quick double click, or the dropdown net to the Back button, are the ways around this.

Meantime, I've changed the way my site starts up, so it doesnt do a redirect any more.

Because they're the only sites that use annoying tactics like that.

*looks around* Err, a friend told me.

Or click the arrow next to the back button, and choose the site you were previously on manually.

Heh, i get annoyed about that back button thing too. I find that clicking it twice quickly can sometimes wrench you free.
