The two games i only play are need for speed hot pursiut 2 and counter strike.

NFS:HP2

Loads up fine, select race and all that is all fine, when coming to race it has a delayed start as if it has frozen then it goes 2x as fast for about 2 seconds then to normal, it is fine for about 20 seconds then it happens again, freezes then goes twice as fast,

The game has been fine since i had it but then this started happening a few days ago.

Counter strike is exactly the same.

Check what else is running, some software will sit there doing nothing then do something every so often that will cain your CPU and make your PC crawl for a few seconds.

Does this happen straight away, or after a certain amount of time, if it happens after a good few minutes, but stays ok before that, it could be some form of overheating problem

try re-installing direct X. That might work. If it doesn't then just get all the lastest drivers for you hardware.

Re-installing the drivers would be my first port of call.

What Graphics card do you have anyway?
